Didnt like Ghost in the Shell either, preferred the sequel actually I love GITS and Akira, but I will say that neither film has likable or sympathetic characters. It's the artistry of those films and the high-level concepts that make them both classics. I clicked on Stuckman's review, couldn't watch it, but I noticed how short it is... I'm assuming he doesn't care for it either. Shame... Neither film seems to resonate with millennials. They all seem to hate both of them preferring the inferior knockoffs, spin-offs and sequels.

I'm hoping they bring it back to theaters at some point. I've only ever seen it on the small screen. Lensmen is also another great anime that's falling by the wayside.

Anyone here watched/read One Piece? I'm currently one fifth of the way done the manga. Pretty great series definitely becoming my favorite Shonen along with FMAB,HxH, JoJo Part 1-6, Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note (Ep 1-25) and Naruto(Pre-War arc).

Honestly, the fights just go on WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long for my tastes and the fillers and lack of progress towards finding the One Piece after... I don't remember when I stopped watching, just made me lose interest. That's all on me, because 13-52 episode series that tell a story with a simple beginning, middle, and end are my preference. Long-running Shonen stuff just gets too repetitive for me.

The plot moves much quicker and the fights are more fun to read. Though I've heard it is reaching its end finally. I believe Oda plans on ending it in 2025. Also out of curiosity raptor what are your thoughts on JoJo and HxH?

Pretty great series definitely becoming my favorite Shonen along with FMAB,HxH, JoJo Part 1-6, Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note (Ep 1-25) and Naruto(Pre-War arc). I just finished the Dressrosa arc. So, 746 non-dubbed episodes in. It's an incredible story, though there are some segments that could benefit from the Dragon Ball Kai treatment. Much of it is worth it in the context of the importance of a fight being drawn out to establish something about the character, but as a viewer, it feels like 100 episodes worth of time could have been trimmed from the series, so far, without missing much. I was hesitant to get into it because of some of the, shall we say, unique character design choices inherent to Devil Fruits and other oddities, but once I was over that, I'm glad I've watched it. One of the most progressive power upgrades without feeling unreasonable I've seen, and again, the story is top notch for character development. I'm also running a D&D campaign which sources a lot of stuff from the series as it's mostly water based.

I like it Ive never read a manga but I am considering reading one down the line for a character from Mob Psycho. Also the manhwa for tower of god I have all DVDs for Yuyu, FMAB, Death Note, and enough other series to more than fill one of those giant Army trunks or a 4'x6' bookshelf. I stayed away from most of the high school focused shows, but the fighting animes get me all over the place. Plenty of samurai, a few shooters, even a couple of mechs, and all sorts of fighter/spirit/demon power stuff. My least proud one is Witchblade, which, near as I can tell, was apparently made to technically not be hentai, but I felt so dirty viewing it that it's never received a rewatch. I don't own HxH but enjoyed the sections I saw. Shura no Toki is my favorite non-mainstream. Trigun for favorite shooter. Samurai, despite plenty of fun options about, I've got to stick with Kenshin. I liked G Gundam, but for mech winner, I've got to go with Heroic Age. Bleach most likely takes the spirit fighter option, but I'd consider YuYu a coin toss. There was a solid sword and sorcery one called Record of Lodoss War that is pretty solid and feels like a LoTR or D&D show. Oh... Space I guess is all over the place, but Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop are great.

I like JoJo and HxH, but I haven't finished them.

Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina have closed a deal with anime-centric streamer Crunchyroll to develop the dark fantasy series “Dantai”.
The Afro-futuristic sci-fi series is set in a city where the rise of biotechnology has created a gap between the haves and have-nots.
The series will explore equality and kinship through the story of two rising stars on either side of the divide who are pitted against one another.
The Elbas will executive produce through his Green Door Pictures and her Pink Towel Pictures labels. The deal comes as Crunchyroll is being prepared to be sold to Sony’s Funimation.

There's a rather dark MMORPG survivor anime roughly akin to Sword Art Online, but told from a darker perspective called Overlord that is curious. They go a bit hyper-sexual with a couple of characters, but otherwise a solid entry and concept. I watched it on Hulu, but it may be elsewhere, as well. Curious if anyone else has watched it prior to spoiling. It does have English audio.

In seven deadly sins, the main character is a creep. Funny but still a creep. Girl says, "I feel this strange force coming from behind me." Protagonist-"Thats just me." He was touching her arse

There are only 3 seasons of Overlord to date and it stops rather abruptly. An extra season or two would be needed to feel like the story gets a successful ending.

Btw did any of you guys ever watch Gundam? maximura @weirdraptor Any recommendations where to start if I wanted to begin with the more modern series'? There are so many Gundams, it's hard to keep up. I loved the style and feel of G Gundam, and I've heard good things about Gundam Unicorn, but it almost comes down to what sort of story you want. Several are about Earth based war, epic space battles, fighting tournaments, I'd be shocked if there isn't a high school drama Gundam. So, my best answer is find a priority and then pair a series to it. I loved G Gundam, so I kind of gave up on more Gundam searching, as I had found the one I enjoyed. I think W and 00 were both well received. There are outside series that fill the same niche, also. Notably, Heroic Age was a powerful and unique twist on the genre of space warfare mobile suits. Escaflowne and Code Geass also deal with primarian terrestrial warfare. Neon Genesis was intense but somehow felt like it was missing continuity in some way.

Hey AQUA CAT! , considering your new avatar, you a big anime fan? Got any favourites? Sometimes. I'm no expert but there's a few that get me:
Perfect Blue (one of my favorites among favorites) Paprika Millennium Actress Tokyo Godfathers Memories (all from the same director. It's almost his entire filmography but what a dude! He died not long after Paprika came out)
Akira Ghost in the Shell (1995) (I gather GITS has a sort of extended universe/sequels going. I'd be curious to watch some of those)
Redline The Girl Who Leaped Through Time The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (that was really interesting. It's based off a show I've never seen and may never, but the movie was really neat. I watched the whole thing in Youtube ages ago)
I also like me a good helping of Studio Ghibli. I liked:
Nausicaa Valley of the Wind Castle in the Sky Spirited Away Princess Mononoke (I got a chance to watch it on the big screen a few years ago. That was a religious experience) When Marnie Was There (that one sneaked up on me and got me good) The Wind Rises!
Tekonkinkreet! (that's a good one)
Yeah nothing too special or fancy but I've dipped my toes in it here and there. Mostly on the movie front. I've seen a few episodes of Food Wars, Kakegurui, a few others.

I just stick with the original Gundam Seed series, since that's what was out when I was getting into anime, and call it a day. The others mostly haven't caught my interest.
