lol that’s amazing. There’s a lot of phase 4 I needed to experience like it was the first time, and Black Widow is right up there among the most underrated IMO. It’s pretty fantastic the way the story unfolds structurally, how it ties to her past and is ignited by Yelena which gives her instant relevance, and they do a really good job of vacillating between action and genuine personal drama. I love it. It’s one of my favorites not just for phase 4 but of the whole MCU. I legitimately don’t understand the dislike it gets. Its pretty damn good. Way better than I initially gave it credit for I don’t mind saying. I think phase 4 threw people off a bit. They didn’t know what was happening so they went in without the same upbeat positivity. But yeah this is extremely rewatchable and I love everybody in it.

Natasha is dead.” But having it essentially be the origin for Yelena as well makes it just as important for that characters development.

It was hotter than shit yesterday and my parents have AC. So I asked my dad if he wanted to watch this. He skipped it in theaters because of Covid 19. So we watched it in their nice air conditioned theater room. theater room! Daaaang lol Yeah, it’s pretty sweet.

You make a project to accomplish multiple goals. You design a scene to accomplish multiple goals. It’s an art. I think what surprised me most was how they don’t waste any scenes. It keeps moving much better than I initially gave it credit for. It pulls me through the film.

I was also thinking there’s a perfect sequel ready to go here. And it’s not just that we know Molina is Iron Maiden from the comics, but rather consider how quickly she joins in on this plan to depose of Dreykov. Now it totally makes sense that she’d align with her family, but this is a woman who appeared very comfortable manipulating people and torturing a pig. She even said people work better when they’re controlled. Then she confesses she had called the red room and by the time Red Guardian & Yelena sing one bar of American Pie, she and Natasha have hatched a full plan and switched identities. And when you consider that Molina was the one who crippled the Red Room, there seems to be all of the ingredients needed for her real mission to have been to take over Dreykov’s empire. And that might be what we see in any potential Black Widow sequel.

Actually the leaks reveal that the sequel will be based on the infamous comic arc Rear Widow where Black Widow spies on the Red Room with a broken leg.

Though I don't much like Ray Winstone as the villain which is a shame cuz he's such a good actor elsewhere. Taskmaster was fine.

Watching this one again,,, again, and I love it more and more. It’s got the spy thriller vibe, I love Natasha’s past and yelenas awakening revealing the return of the red room, it gets intensely sci fi, and feels like a black widow comic come to life. All of the side characters are great. This one is a huge win for me. Dude! I just watched this last night! No kidding. I think we have a psychic connection, Archie. never seen it

If you’ve seen any generic spy action movie, you have seen it. noooooo come on. It’s way better than generic spy action movie. There’s a lot of personal dynamics going on here. The correlation of family, the various motivations and sensibilities.

The correlation of family, the various motivations and sensibilities. The family dynamic was the main highlight. I love Red Guardian. He steals the movie. Yelena feeling like the cover family was the only happy part of her life was sweet and emotionally effective. But the plot was very weak and generic, as were the action scenes.

It’s also very thematically simplistic and pandering. All the Widows are suddenly nothing but victims with no agency or responsiblity for their actions. Literally controlled by the evil man. Where’s the complexity? The nuance? They should’ve stuck with their original idea to make Rachel Weis the villain.
Even Nat’s one big morally ambiguous action is walked back so that she can “save” Drekov’s daughter and easily atone for her sins.

And don’t get me started on Taskmaster. Absolute character assassination. It's up there with Fantastic Four (2015) Doctor Doom and X-Men Origins: Wolverine's "Deadpool"
