Back to the Eredivisie. The next game was away at Groningen. It will be the last before the big one. 'De Klassieker' aka Feyenoord vs Ajax is the last game of first half of the season and is the biggest game in Dutch Football. But first we had to go to Groningen.

Today marked start of the KNVB Beker. Basically its knock out. Win you move to the next round, loose and you are out. We had a tough draw away at FC Twente
This result we only played one game in the Dutch Cup this year. Too bad. However we have other and bigger goals to aim for.
Next up...
De Klassieker

After the dissapointment of De Klassieker, we now start the second half of the season. One game before the winterbreak. After a few non wins its time to right the ship. We went to Heerenveen.

Its now the winterbreak.
Mid January we will resume the league. The Conference League will restart in March. Of course we dont have cup matches left to play.
Feyenoord had a good first half of the season. We play European Football in the spring and we are still a factor in the title race. Twente away is a cupgame you can lose even if it is dissapointing to go out like that.
Last year we finished 5th with an enormous gap to the no.1. We lost our best player. And the new coach has tried to implement a new style of play. That we are where we are right now and especially how well we play sometimes is beyond our wildest expectations.
January 1st the transfermarket will open for a month. Maybe we will get some new players. Maybe someone will leave. Lets go!!!

You know I follow futbol and while I have other teams, I like following Feyenord here. How do teams in some of the smaller nations work? Are they incubators for young talent who move to the big 5 quickly, are they retirement clubs for older players, or are they permanent stations for natives who just aren’t big 5 talent? Or is it all of that?

Are they incubators for young talent who move to the big 5 quickly, are they retirement clubs for older players, or are they permanent stations for natives who just aren’t big 5 talent? Or is it all of that? All of that. But clubs do have different focus. Our team right now Justin Bijlow Dutch Goalkeeper 23y Own Talent Marcus Holmgren Pedersen Norwegian Right Back 21y Bought for 1M Euro Gernot Trauner Austrian Center Back 29y Bought for 1M euro Marcos Senesi Argentine Center Back 24y Bought for 7M euro (Most expensive transfer in Feyenoord history) Tyrell Malacia Dutch Left Back 22y Own Talent Fredrik Aursnes Norwegian Central Midfield 26y Bought for 500K Euro Orkun Kökçü Turkish/Dutch Central Midfield 21y Own talent Jens Toornstra Dutch Midfield/Right Winger 32y Bought for 3.5 M Euro (longest serving member of Feyenoord squad) Guus Til Dutch Attacking Midfield 24y Hired for this season from Spartak Moscow Luis Sinisterra Columbian Left Winger 22y Bought for 2M euro Bryan Linssen Dutch Striker/Left Winger 31y Signed as free agent Thats our first eleven. Next few players play regularly Lutsharel Geertruida Dutch Right/Center Back 21y Own Talent Alireza Jahanbalhsh Iranian Right Winger 28y Bought for 1M Euro Reiss Nelson English Right/Left Winger 22y Hired for this season from Arsenal Cyriel Dessers Nigerian/Belgian Striker 27y Hired for this season with a 2.8M euro option to buy from Racing Genk There are a couple of young talents as well who still need to break into the team. As you can see its a nice mix. Feyenoord is considered a topteam in the Netherlands by tradition but it has been struggeling for consistent success for decades. Unlike Ajax and PSV who compete every year Feyenoord has periods of success mixed with periods where things are tough. I dony know if you have seen the Disney+ doc 'Dat Ene Woord' (That One Word) about last season but we ended up fifth (by default it has to be top 3 for it not be a bad season) and had to sell our best player because he had a release clause to Ajax no less. We have a new coach (Arne Slot) and the club has had a strategic overhall this summer. It seems to pay off. Hopefully we can maintain our good form in the second half of the season.

I am official rooting for you. Someone got me an Ajax jersey once. I’ll wear it on todays show maybe lol. But I don’t have any love for Ajax. They’re just a recognizable name when you first start following champions league. The Netherlands gets 3 slots? That’s a lot even if one of them is for a qualifying round.

Well that is how it stands now. So far we get two (one main, one qualify) but we are doing well this season. If we keep this up for one and a half season we may surpass Portugal and become the sixth league in Europe. That would mean three spots for the 24/25 season (2 main, 1 qualify)

However we have a smaller selection when it comes to quality and experience in depth. So its not likely Seriously... Wearing Ajax jersey in downtown Rotterdam is like wearing your Klan outfit in Harlem, New York. You may survive it but it will hurt.

People know I like soccer jerseys so they’ll just get me any jersey they find. No concept of who is who or that I prefer some and not others. It’s funny. I’ve got a Barcelona Jersey too and I hate them. The ones I have that I actually like are Man City, Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. And there’s some others Im going for. I hope you unseat Ajax

ArArArchStantonWe have a new player coming in. Cole Bassett from Colorado Rapids. Three weeks ago he made a goalscoring debut in the USMNT. He will be hired for 1.5 year with an option to buy. He will be the second American player in Feyenoord's history. Cory Gibbs was the first about 17 years ago.

Like how do the teams keep track of such a massive global free agent market and how many options are open to players like Cole. Exciting news. Is he replacing someone?

Like how do the teams keep track of such a massive global free agent market and how many options are open to players like Cole. Exciting news. Is he replacing someone? Wow thats a question. Well players can talk to other clubs 6 months before their contract run out or if clubs are in agreement about a transfer. Sometimes players have a release clause in theit contract. If that is being offered by another club, the club the player is under contract with has to accept it and the player can negotiate with the offering club. If there is no release clause clubs will have to agree to a fee. How do clubs get their players? Well usually a clubs has it's own youth academy. They scout young boys and invite them to play on their club if they are deemed talented enough. They also send their scouts around the world on the senior level. The bigger the club, the more and better scouts they have. Nowadays a lot of clubs also use data- and videoscouts to identify transfertargets. Inside clubs therr is usually a technical director who is responsible for transferrong players. The trainer/coach is responsible for making those player gel and play together. Except for Brittain where there is usually a manager in place who does it all. Well all, usually they have a big staff to help him out. Transfermarkets are open from Jan 1st until Jan 31st and from July 1st until August 31st. Out of contract players can be signed outside those periods.

A few players who were not playing (much) have been loaned out for the second half of the season. The players signed today (officially they havent yet but both are flying on from Sweden and the US in the next few days for their medical check) are expected to play regularly. FYI we play our next league this saturdaynight.

Our first league match of 2022 was a home game against Vitesse. Can we start the new year with a win?

Our first league match of 2022 was a home game against Vitesse. Can we start the new year with a win? That was tough. The goal was a communication error. The keeper has to be calling his defender off if he’s going out like that. Unfortunate. But that leveling goal was stolen. Nice aggressive move by Feyenoord and I get offsides and keeper interference, but that IMO was too nitpicky. The ball was blocked back out and scored legitimately. It should have stood. I despise taking goals back unless there’s just a blatant error.
