Unfortunately I still remember the shows awkwardly cheesy depiction of the little Leia, as if the show the director was shoving it into my eye sockets while screaming “THIS IS IT, THIS IS THE MAGICAL MOMENT YOUVE BEEN WAITING FOR, SHE’S SO FUCKING CHEEKY AND ADVENTURESS. ITS FUCKING MAAAGICAL!!!!!” Literal cringe lol That’s one tiny example. I knew the direction itself was horrible when Obi Wan meets someone in secret towards the beginning and the director thought “oh, out-of-nowhere nonsense shaky cam will create tension!”. Tacky giveaway of a bad director, so I looked it up and found the same chick directed every episode. Writing was bad too, the Spider-Man losing his powers thing applied to Obiwan was just so dull. The attempt at having a gritty depiction of Obiwan working and taking his pieces of whatever meat were just poorly conceived and boring. Plenty more I could mention. Music was lame until they hired that guy recommended by John Williams who for some reason goes uncredited, didn’t feel like Star Wars at all for the most part. Annoying editing around Leia escaping people at the speed of a crippled snail. I should have been blown away by the shit Darth Vader was doing but felt numb to it for the most part, that’s what makes me the most disappointed. TL;DR: poorly written and directed.

A couple of those duels were the only parts of the entire series that I liked, but they didn’t carry much emotional weight or tension for me due to my lack of caring about any of the drama going on thanks to bad writing trying to hide behind epic fan service. It’s hard to compare the writing in Obi-Wan to older Star Wars. Attack of the Clones had bad writing, which is why I don’t like AotC. As for even older Star Wars, what they lacked in great writing they made up for in excellent pacing, visuals, characters and that general sense of adventure you get out of them. Just fun. They clearly tried for a darker more serious tone with Obi Wan but, in my eyes, it came across as tacky fake cliche nonsense that just didn’t work. Like they had an idea but weren’t experienced enough to pull it off. FYI I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, but I like most of them. Think the SW films I didn’t like were Attack of the Clones, Last Jedi (but it had its moments) and solo.

A common complaint about these made for tv Star Wars shows is that they don’t feel like Star Wars at all. It’s completely valid.

Like why was Deborah Chow allowed to direct every episode when her direction is clearly one of the shows biggest flaws? Why in the fuck was Hannah Friedman part of the writing team, her writing credits would make any intelligent person disregard her existence as someone who learnt to use a keyboard in a second. No words for her. Natalie Holt, the composer. Scenes that depend on the music to carry the scene, like Leia’s cringeworthy intro, totally failed and it all sounded bland and uninteresting until they hired the guy recommended by Williams, or when they were just using segments of Williams’ Obi Wan theme. And why is that guy uncredited!? WOMEN!!!! Clearly they’re choosing women to take on these creative rolls on account of them being women and nothing more! Check their resumes. Nothing there screams “this person must work on a direct sequel to the Star Wars prequels, BEAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! So I blame women for killing Star Wars.

There’s no denying the over correction being performed by Kathleen Kennedy with the diversity stuff, you can’t hide from the crap. In the end it doesn’t matter to me, I’ll either like the show/movie or I won’t. I just want them to make Star Wars stuff that I can enjoy.

Only if it involves a scene that uses shit editing to make it look like she’s winning an Olympic Triathlon. Or if she’s killed and eaten before the events of A New Hope just to like.. subvert expectations.

Yeah I do find it odd that Chow was given complete control of the whole series. I mean The Mandalorian a superior show was shared by Favreau and Star Wars legend Filoni...smh..

I’ve talked to Star Wars fans who think that the Obi Wan tv show is the worst piece of Star Wars content ever made. Just curious, do you agree?

There’s that awkwardly bad Christmas special that came out after A New Hope.

Some say it’s worse. oh I really think Obi is close to top tier. It’s got so many critic and even epic moments I didn’t know I needed. Boba is fun but a bit more fans only exploration. IMO they’re both totally worth just for spending time with them. They don’t even need a story for me. I could watch them going about their daily lives.
