Hard to be excited for it as it's kinda far away but at least they cast a great actor. Would you want Snipes to cameo or be the villain?

Mmm they may be able to use Snipes the way they did Ferrigno.Cameo him in the movie.

Naturally I'm excited for it. I'm sure it will do some things far better than the Snipes movies did.

Well, since there's not much information on the new Blade as yet, all I can offer are my thoughts on the 1998 version. **somewhat spoilery below if you haven't seen the movie** I liked the majority of the movie. I thought Wesley Snipes was good as Blade (perhaps not 'overly expressive', but he worked the 'stoic' thing well enough). I liked his no-nonsense attitude, and enjoyed his relationship with Kris Kristofferson's character, Whistler. I really enjoyed Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost. One of my favourite comic book movie villains ever. I liked that he started off as 'lower down' on the totem pole. He had people who were higher up than him, who treated him as lesser than them...but then he got his revenge on them and became more powerful - I like when that happens in movies, as I think the characters who are treated like crap by their 'superiors' wind up being 'crazier' and having less self-control than their 'bosses'. When they get a hold of power, they go nuts with it. The only thing that drags down the movie for me is the dodgy-looking CGI - specifically the effects used for the EDTA darts which Blade sticks into a few vampires, including Deacon Frost at the end. It just looked too 'cartoonish', I thought. Karen says it's used to treat blood clots...well, I guess in vampires it had the opposite effect. On a MASSIVE scale. It just looked rather ridiculous in this movie which, up until that point, had been somewhat 'grounded' (as much as a movie with vampires in it could be). Just about anything else would've been a preferable death for the main villain of the movie than how he ended up getting taken out. I remember liking Blade's sword and that it had a safety guard against anyone but him who touched it. I also remember that this movie had the nastiest/most gruesome-looking vampire burning of the three movies. I do remember thinking Blade was the first movie I saw the 'bullet time' effect in (I think The Matrix may have added the camera-moving-around-in-a-circular-motion effect as it happened, but Blade was definitely the first movie I can recall seeing the effects with the bullets slowed down in such a fashion). If it occurred in even earlier movies, then my mistake. I may not have seen those. Anyway, it was a decent movie...but, unfortunately, let down in some areas. I can definitely see Mahershala Ali in the role and am willing to give him a fair chance (unlike some people, it seems).

Some think it may be released in 2022. Though that could also be Antman 3.

New York playwright Stacy Osei-Kuffour has been hired to pen the new film adaptation of the “Blade” comics for Marvel Studios.
Osei-Kuffour acted as story editor and writer on HBO’s acclaimed “Watchmen” limited series and now will handle this reboot of the property about the ‘Daywalker’ with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role.
Ali’s involvement was revealed eighteen months ago at San Diego Comic Con in 2019 and both he and Marvel spent months meeting with writers in a meticulous search to find the right person for the job.
Kuffour becomes the first Black female writer to pen a Marvel movie, following the relatively recent hiring of “Candyman” reboot helmer Nia DaCosta as Marvel’s first Black woman director.
Marvel will next move to hiring a director who will work with Osei-Kuffour who also worked on Hulu’s acclaimed “Pen15” series, HBO’s “Run” and Amazon’s “Hunters”.

I’m reading the possibility that Blade will be rated PG13 and for the record I wanted to restate my position that rated R isn’t necessary to a great story.

Besides DP3 there are no R rated movies planned for the MCU. At this point they will just make DP3 but I dont think they will put heavy tie ins in this.

Having Blade NOT R rated is weak sauce. If DP3 can they so should Blade. Will never top the originals film if they keep it at PG13.

I get the feeling the point isn't to top the original trilogy, but to take the character back to his roots. I wouldn't be surprised if they went a more classic gothic horror route, complete with Dracula and the Van Helsings.

It would be difficult to top the first two films in the trilogy even if the new one is rated R. They can atleast try to maximise their chances to do so. And those original Blade movies are from the late 90s. Im pretty sure a lot of people still haven't seen em.

I’m realizing that mahershala ali is going to be over 50 by the time they get this out in theater with production being pushed to 2022 now. It’s just a fairly old age to be starting an action heavy franchise and it makes me wonder if this is more of a one off thing they don’t intend to weave into much of a larger fabric. Maybe a few a spot appearances or something in other films. IDK, maybe it doesn’t mean anything and Ali is capable of carrying an action trilogy till he’s 60, but it’s noteworthy anyway.

Moonknight... Oscar is no spring chicken I’ll give you that, but by comparison he’s 42 and his show comes out the year Blade even starts filming. That said, perhaps Blade actually debuts in that series. Hummm. Anyway it wasn’t a condemnation, just a curiosity
