They toured a couple of years ago but I missed them unfortunately. Hopefully the live music industry will start up again, but it's not likely to happen this year. 😕

Had a long phase where was I listening to a lot of hip hop. The past few days I've been listening to a lot of A Perfect Circle. I'm listening to it right now. The Package from Thirteenth Step.

I discovered Australian singer-songwriter Sarah McKenzie in 2019, when I was staying at Québec City’s Château Frontenac. They were playing her “Paris in the Rain” in the lobby, and I was stunned listening to it, thinking it was a Great American Songbook tune I’d somehow never heard or heard of. In fact, it’s an original McKenzie, and she released it in 2016! She’s a genuine talent. Her music may be better than her lyrics, but what music! You simultaneously detect hints of “high jazz” (for lack of a better term—Peterson, Ellington, Strayhorn) and Broadway composers (especially Berlin and Mercer). For the most part I prefer her original compositions to her renditions of standards, but she can still pull off, say, Coleman and Leigh’s “ When in Rome (I Do as the Romans Do)” with ease. Anyway, I’m listening to a YouTube playlist of her songs. Some favorites:
