The trailers seem to be trying very hard to make me think Mama Widow is Taskmaster. I'm not falling for it, too obvious. Are you perhaps convinced Taskmaster is a character we haven't seen in any of the trailers? I suspect so. None of the other characters in the trailers make sense. I can't think of any established MCU characters who make sense either at the moment.

They have, like, totally ruined my pasttime of overanalyzing trailers to figure out what is going on so I don't have to watch movies themselves.

Except "Endgame", which oddly enough subverted itself away from what the trailers led you to believe and then double subverted itself right back into a final climatic fight with Thanos.

After watching Florence Pugh in a few different things, I think she's definitely up to the task of being the new Black Widow. I look forward to seeing her carrying on the role.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me for Black Widow to have legacy characters. She's not really a symbol for anything and she doesn't have any powers. At least Hawkeye can pass on his bow and Falcon can carry on Cap's morals and ideals. But Nat is just a former assassin trying to do good in order to compensate for her dark past. What is the "mantle" she's passing on? I don't get it. It's just a branding thing which seems shallow.

What is the "mantle" she's passing on? I don't get it. It's just a branding thing which seems shallow. Yelena Belova is the Black Widow, and so is Natasha Romanova. Black Widow isn't a mantle. It's a designation. The title describes a certain level of proficiency in espionage and its related tradecraft. Any agent who graduates from the Red Room program is given the name Black Widow. Natasha has distinguished herself as the first Black Widow to become a public adventurer and the cohort of major superheroes. I take Shortland's meaning to be that Yelena will be the next publically known Black Widow. Her becoming an Avenger is not guaranteed. I think her focus will be on further exposing the Red Room and similar programs.

Gotta say isnt that kind of spoilery for the director to say such things? Unless Yelena does something else?? Hmmm

I'm not too fond of spoiler culture, but this film has been delayed for so long that I can't be upset about one or two details of the plot leaking at this point. I'm surprised more details about the film have not leaked. It's good to hear that an actor of Ms. Pugh's ability and status is "joining" the MCU.

What do you guys think Black Widow will make at the box office? Thats a hard question. If it comes out when theaters are fully open again it could easily make 1 billion. But if there are restrictions and there probably will be there will be an enormous impact on the Box Office. Its virtually impossible to predict anything at this stage.

ArArArchStanton Our bet is still on right? I thought of a new demand: if I win you must list the MCU movies from first to worst! 😀 You don't have to agree to it if you don't want to though.

Yeah I guess we'll have to at least wait for any cinema blockbuster first to estimate how BW will do

Does or did anyone still believe this film will make a billion dollars? #Billion$$Bet It all depends on what Marvel Studios will do. If they decide for vod release, which I both do and dont want, than no chance.

If the film is released in theaters, after we've cleared the pandemic, do you think it will make one billion dollars? Yes but only in a worldwide covid_19 free world. In that case.... easily And if Im honoust I dont see that happen any time soon. And I fear Disney will be pushing their studios to release content on Disney+. Otherwise that streaming service will die because of lack of content.

Does or did anyone still believe this film will make a billion dollars? #Billion$$Bet I don’t think we can assume any film will and if they do it will be over a much longer period of time as more people will wait until later weeks to see it. I also think considering the extend wait and the crowded market at the time, some of these films are going to have to make a decision to go VOD

Even with a vaccine, I still think there is a contingent of audiences goers who will not frequent movie theaters for fear of catching the virus (or some new iteration of it) if that could be avoided. Welcome to the wait for V.O.D. world.

Welcome to the wait for V.O.D. world. I totally agree. This is exactly what I think too. And despite news reports of promising vaccins I still fear it will be end of 2021 earliest before its available. Lots of businesses will not survive. Among them theaters and movie studios. There will come a moment when mankind will realise its society has to fundamentally change to secure the survival of that society. The world we knew is gone

Related question - is there any credible existential threat to human existence in your eyes? Or, we will just go on as a species indefinitely?
