There probably won't be an Avatar 4 or 5. Why do you say that? The hate for Cameron is real. A substantial anti-Cameron movement is slinking its way across social media; they're all coiled up to strike at his first film released in the age of social media. They're going to crucify the movie and him along with it. I don't think the pro-Avatar contingent will be enough to counteract the hate wave. People who were hypnotized by the film a decade-plus ago have grown up and moved on. Even if he does manage a hail mary in terms of the film's overall quality (which is unlikely), he's still dealing with a far more crowded blockbuster landscape than we had back in 2009. He's unlikely to scale the same box-office heights as the first film. That alone will warrant canceling the fourth and fifth films - especially if they were going to be decades apart.

Im not so sure about that. How many movies have really been affected by social media hate?

Well that's a grim assessment. It's not all doom and gloom, but it isn't going to be a 2 billion cakewalk either. Cameron still has his outsized track record and his reputation for incorporating strong female heroines into his stories. He's also succeeded where many other franchises have failed by keeping his sequel plans close to the vest for over a decade. He may even have some new technological surprises up his sleeve. Will all of that be enough? All I'm saying is that if the current blockbuster landscape is akin to a Hunger Games-style competition, the odds are not ever in his favor.

Speaking with Variety at D23, Landau provides an update on the filming status of the Avatar sequels and hints that the fifth film in the franchise may not be the end. Although confirming that they only have 4 more movies concretely planned, the producer explains that Pandora is a vast world and the story possibilities are virtually endless. Check out Landau's full comment below: “We have 4 more planned. We have 2, 3, 4, and 5. Those scripts are all written. We’ve completed productions on 2, 3, and part of movie 4, so we’re ready. Let’s get through 2, 3, 4, and 5, and then— look, the ideas are there, the story ideas. You know, Pandora, we always look at as a metaphor for our world and you can tell an unlimited number of stories in our world. You can tell an unlimited number of stories on Pandora.” screenrant.com/avatar-2-sequels-franchise-future-update/

Per Variety, Landau revealed that Avatar 4 has already filmed a significant amount of the movie. The producer shared that Cameron and his crew have finished nearly all of the first act of Avatar 4 with much of the remaining movie "designed." This suggests that Avatar 4 is being filmed nearly in chronological order, something that is not typical for movie productions. screenrant.com/avatar-4-filming-surprisingly-far-along-already/

He isn't wrong. That's about the era were you become fluent in sarcasm - the stock and trade of almost every live-action comic book character.

Hey may just justify this project's decade+ long gestation.
