I just got HBO thrown into my cable bundle. I wonder if that includes HBO MaX? Or do you have to subscribe to it separately? Does HBO Max cannibalize its traditional HBO cable-subscription base? Does every HBO subscriber get Max for free? What is your incentive to keep a paid subscription if Max is cheaper? I'm sure there are reasonable answers to these questions, but HBO sucks at branding (Go, Now, Max). I think they need to commit to being an actual streaming service if they want to compete with other streaming services. Is there anything in 4K on the service yet? It would make sense to me to be included with the actual channel so as to not compete with itself. Not sure if it is though. I didn’t ask a lot of questions. I actually went in to turn in an old cable box and they offered me a cheaper deal. I doubt MAX is included though. It’s probably extra.

They also merged HBO Go and Now into Max.
Not sure why there was two separate HBO apps before Max.

BTW, HBO already has 140 million subscribers ( twice as many as Disney+ ) I just got HBO thrown into my cable bundle. I wonder if that includes HBO MaX? Or do you have to subscribe to it separately? HBO includes HBO max "for free" Like I said, they take great care of their subscribers.

A quick google search reveals that MAX is included with all HBO subscriptions! YIPPEE! I can watch WW on Christmas! HBO Max absolutley should be included with your HBO satellite/cable subscription. A not-so-quick Google search reveals that an HBO subscription can cost up to $20 per month as a part of a typical provider bundle. Unless there is a difference between HBO Max vs. HBO plain-vanilla subscriber content, there's no reason to have both. You're likely overpaying as you could ditch the HBO subscription and sign up with HBO Max (for moderate savings).

They increase my charges randomly and then when I inquire or threaten to discontinue they lower the price and give me HBO for free. They did the same thing a few years ago. A lot of their newer bundles include bonus services too. I could’ve had Netflix instead, but there isn’t really anything on there that interests me.

That's probably the 5 best TV shows I have ever seen. You would probably also like the Nolan-tastic remake of Westworld.

It makes sense; they're bleeding cable subscribers at a rapid pace. Price juggling is probably their default retention strategy.

I wonder how long until they add Batman Beyond and the Batman animated series on HBO Max.

I have to bring this up now, I always laugh at people who complain about cable prices.
I love my cable, and it is worth every single penny.
I will gladly send money to HBO until the day I die.

I actually tried Westworld last time around. I wasn’t all that impressed, honestly. I loved the pilot, and the rest of season kinda sorta kept my interest. Season two lost me almost immediately though.

I have a week free pass coming up. While I never would have supported the investment, I may watch it to see the difference.

So Wonder Woman 84 beyond all predictive power, has now become a sales strategy for HBO MAX. And I mean that literally.
By offering it without a premium charge the strategy is now clearly to get as many eyeballs on the service as possible, while the box office receipts may only end up as token revenue.
This gives me two big questions. What % of people who watch this on a free trial will actually be convinced by the service to continue paying for it. And with Justice League already being used for a similar purpose, what % of those people weren’t already going to sign up. With a combined $270million budget before marketing costs, can this make financial sense long term?

If they can get people in and hooked on some exclusives, they could get a solid three to six month addiction started. I believe they were taking a bath and needed their signups up before the vaccine drops. Guessing the other stuff they're saving wasn't as big of a market grab by whatever stats they were viewing. My personal theory is they don't want to let hype build to unachievable levels so they had to drop it as they needed a 4th quarter win and wanted to burn the fewest films in achieving it. Blue Monday may apply to this decision.

That's a notably vague stat. Did they raise prices? What was their expected growth during that period as a growing streaming service and how did they achieve compared to the growth of other services during a similar phase or period? There are a lot of metrics that can be used to find more complete answers than just bottom line.
