Well Raimi did have a try and it wasnt that great What try? I think Biz (if I have my Spidermen's secret identities correct) is reffering to the steaming pile of bantha poodooh that is Spider-man 3.

Oh, well, if it says anything about where I’m coming from, I’m a big Spider-Man 3 fan. It’s not as good as the first two, sure, but I caught a few minutes on TV the other day and it totally sucked me in. But then I love Raimi’s style and stylization, and he and I seem to have some of the same interests (what with the genres he’s picked and the Broadway musical sequences he gives Kirsten Dunst in SM3).

I hate to be negative, but I just saw this movie today and didn’t much like it much at all. Sorry, everybody. I was mostly bored, to be honest, especially with all the explosions and seemingly ceaseless punchy scenes. Marisa Tomei is great, and beautiful, but her death didn’t move me at all. I didn’t find any of the jokes funny. I felt every minute of the running time. I liked seeing Tobey Maguire again, but frankly he seemed uninterested. I like Tom Holland, and he was fine here. I really liked Zendaya, which surprised me because I didn’t like her MJ before. The best thing about the movie—by far—is Willem Dafoe, whose Green Goblin is as terrifying and amazing as in 2002. One Dafoe closeup is worth a thousand explosions. Playing the “if” game is always perilous, but I couldn’t help thinking how much better this might have been with Sam Raimi behind the director’s chair, bringing real style and personality to the proceedings. I was really looking forward to this, but unfortunately, yeah, for me it was a big letdown. I’m happy so many people love it, but…I dunno, reading the reviews I feel like I watched a different movie from the rest of the world. I thought it was stupid, no plot to speak of, non-funny "jokes", wasted member-berrie cameos. I seriously can't belive this passes as "good" filmaking.

Totally agreed on the jokes.

I'm not that surprised that this is a divisive film among fans. I will admit that the writing could have been better and I do wish Tobey and Andrew contributed more than just the third act. But I can't deny how much fun I had with the film, maybe I am blinded by nostalgia with Tobey Maguire Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe Green Goblin (happy? taylorfirst1!) and Alfred Molina Doc Oc. If I can say one thing about this film is that it actually made me like Tom Holland more as Spider-Man. I still want Marvel to embrace the multiverse, regardless of pandering to nostalgia.

The way they handled Tom Holland’s Spidey was quite a pleasant surprise for me. I liked him here 100x more than the other “Home” movies. I too can understand those who don’t like it though. It is definitely a fan service movie. I just personally thought the novelty of it was so much fun and unprecedented. I’m trying to see it again this week. Perhaps once nostalgia wears off I’ll have lower opinion of it? We will see…

Usually I hate fan service nostalgia stuff. Mando was manipulative garbage. I’m not sure how to articulate why I thought differently about Spider-Mang. Perhaps it’s because I expected the novelty of it to be the primary attraction? I don’t know.

After some more thought to this movie I cant help but concluding that I feel for it like a dumb fanboy. Cool pics dont make up for some serious mistakes made with the characters in this movie.

I don't think there's anything wrong with fan service or nostalgia per se. It's all about having a little perspective and going in knowing that you are being manipulated.
We got what we asked for with No Way Home, for better or worse. For decades, all the studios have read and heard us say is that the Raimi films were better. So, it's no surprise that they would give up on trying anything original and just repackage what we all agree was perfect. It's more than a little lazy, but even worse, it's incredibly cynical. Regardless of all that, the film was fun in the moment, and I'm glad all those extremely talented actors of yesteryear were fortunate enough to have another go at their classic characters. The film skillfully balances callbacks to the Raimi, Webb, and Watt's eras while still feeling very rooted in the MCU.
I have to admit that this was an exceedingly clever film (even if Electro never knew who Spider-Man was). But cleverness only gets you so far.
My biggest complaint about the film is that the story doesn't add up to much. And even worse, we're back to the joyless Peter Parker that I, personally, was happy to be taking a vacation from. All due respect to the traditionalists; I've heard that tune before.
I don't think it's a coincidence that three of the major movies in the holiday frame relied heavily on nostalgia to get us back out into the world. No Way Home and Resurrections for obvious reasons and Nightmare Alley for harkening back to old Hollywood's Film Noir era.
Resurrections handled its flavor of nostalgia best, in my opinion (though it is far from perfect). Unfortunately, it was dismissed out of hand by the fans who wanted more gravity-defying, overly choreographed fight sequences. I'm a bit too old to be sold on just that alone anymore; it was nice to see Lana acknowledge that the previous installments were not the be-all and end-all of anything. She also shrewdly acknowledges that her film's middle-aged stars would need some help to get their digital mojo working again. I applaud the filmmaker's willingness to explore ideas even if they sometimes fall as flat as the zombie bombs of the film's final act.
Moss and Reeves holding hands and kicking as in their fifties felt a bit more earned than Holland and his mono-nymph attempting the same in No Way Home.

Well, since we are confessing our disappointment with the multiverse I must admit that recent reports about the Dr Strange reshoots have me severely curbing my expectations. Marvel is apparently packing the thing full of cameos and while I enjoyed that in Spidermang I don’t really care about most of the rumored characters here. If Deadpool shows up and ruins the Raiminess I will throw up in my popcorn.

Especially when you look back at Endgame also…which also tacks on plenty of nostalgic bits, although I don’t think anyone looks back fondly on Thor the Dark World. They could easily misread this as “cram as much nostalgia into a movie as possible” moving forward even if it doesn’t contribute to the story. Imagine the crowd pop if Hugh Jackman shows up as Wolverine. Sure the audience will eat it up but it’s just a cupcake. Once it’s gone we’ll wonder where the actual meal is…ya know?

I almost want that leak to be true just to see the fandom explode over it!

I kinda liked the idea of Patrick Stewart as a variant of Xavier because it’s a nice little halfway between him being a new character and an old one. Sort of like Judi Dench returning as M in the Craig era. But some of these rumors are so gratuitous. Tom Cruise as Iron Man is especially cringey because it’s just a fourth wall breaking nod to him almost getting the original role. Captain Carter sounds awesome though. That’s the sort of multiverse stuff I want here.

Kills Hawkeye like 4 times. It’s all so great.

Since there is no such thing as a smart fanboy, you're in good company. I think No Way Home knew what it set out to do and accomplished it with a lot of humor and excitement. It's just too bad that the bar for what it set out to do wasn't set very high. For a moment, I was concerned about how it would feel to have the Avengers not know who Spider-Man is but, honestly, it probably won't make a bit of difference to future storylines.

LOL For me it's Nicholas Cage Ghost Rider participating in the final battle along with Hugh Jackman Wolverine. If Ben Affleck Daredevil actually shows up, I will legitimately give the film a 10/10 for having the balls to do that.

And its legitimate. I cant believe I was too blinded by nostalgia to pick this up right away. To me No Way Home is the absolute worst Marvel Studios has ever done. And with all the rumors going around about DS2 I dont have high hopes for that one either.
