An animated adult drama set in the “Game of Thrones” world is in the early stages of development at HBO Max.
Meetings with writers are already underway with the tone said to be akin to the original show and is part of a larger strategy to expand the world of creator George R.R. Martin’s fantasy drama.
No deals have been made so far so the project could still be scrapped. The expansion of the franchise begins with the prequel “House of the Dragon” which will begin production in the spring, and a live-action take on Martin’s novella series “Tales of Dunk and Egg”.
While HBO previously developed several ‘Thrones’ prequels that didn’t go anywhere, the emergence of HBO Max has put greater importance on building out the franchise.

HBO Max has announced a Thursday March 18th launch date for the four-hour ‘Snyder Cut’ version of Zack Snyder’s “Justice League”.
In addition, three new posters have been released. Warner Bros. Pictures has reportedly spent up to $70 million on readying this alternate version of the 2017 film, one that is much closer to Snyder’s original version of the film.
Along with several minutes of new footage recently shot for the film, the new take is said to consist mostly of footage that wasn’t in the theatrical cut which mostly consisted of footage from Joss Whedon’s reshoots.
Darkseid, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke and even Jared Leto’s Joker are expected to have scenes in the new cut.

HBO’s planned TV series adaptation of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game “The Last of Us” has cast its female lead.
17 year-old Bella Ramsey, best known for her breakout role as the fierce Lyanna Mormont in “Game of Thrones,” will take on the role of Ellie.
The story is set two decades after modern civilization has been destroyed and centers on the relationship between Joel, a hardened survivor and smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic
What starts as a small job to take the girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Fellow “Thrones” actress Maisie Williams was floated years ago as a potential Ellie, though at 23 has gone beyond playing a believable early-mid teen.
Former “True Detective” star and Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali was rumored to be up for a role and whilst he did circle one, a deal never came to fruition and he will not be involved.
“Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin is writing and executive producing with the game’s original writer and creative director Neil Druckmann.
Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov (“Beanpole”) has been tapped to direct the pilot. The game has sold more than 17 million copies across both its original release and remains one of the most critically heralded of all time.

Mere hours after the announcement of Bella Ramsey in the female lead role of Ellie, it has been announced that “The Mandalorian” and “Game of Thrones” actor Pedro Pascal is set to play the male lead role of Joel in HBO’s TV series adaptation of the award-winning PlayStation video game “The Last of Us”.
The story is set two decades after modern civilization has been destroyed and centers on the relationship between Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor and smuggler in this new world, and Ellie (Ramsey), a teenager who may be key to a cure for a deadly pandemic.
What starts as a small job to take the girl out of an oppressive quarantine zone becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Pascal is expected to continue on “The Mandalorian” where he is used sparingly because of the nature of his character who remains masked most of the time.

Zack Snyder Reportedly Eyed To Direct Killing Joke Movie With Jared Leto For HBO Max By Christian Bone 23 hours ago
Scooper Mikey Sutton of Geekosity is reporting that WB is developing a live-action Killing Joke film starring Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime. While Joaquin Phoenix might be cinema’s current Joker, Leto’s return in Justice League could sow the seeds for him to get his own HBO Max flick. And, according to Sutton, Snyder’s name is one of those that the studio is thinking about for the movie’s director.
If you’ve got at least a passing interest in Batman, you’ll know about The Killing Joke. After all, the acclaimed origin story for the villain by Alan Moore and Brian Bollard has inspired pretty much every cinematic incarnation of the Joker to date. It was also adapted into an animated film, featuring Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, in 2016. We just got an origins movie for the clown, of course, but hey, when the last one made over $1 billion, why not recycle the same idea?
What’s more, Sutton claims that sources tell him Ben Affleck would be back for this Killing Joke adaptation, too. Leto’s cameo in JL will finally see Batfleck and his Joker share the screen, something Zack Snyder was very keen to make happen. It won’t give us the full-on showdown between the two foes that this possible movie could, though. But again, whether a Killing Joke pic gets the greenlight likely depends on how well Justice League performs when it finally hits streaming on March 18th.

“It’s meant to, especially for the special edition, it is to replace the one that was kind of messed up a little bit… The Blu-ray I think, it was okay, but just not the [4K]. I remember watching it on Apple movies or wherever it was, or somewhere, and going, ‘Wait, what? That’s not, that’s not correct.’ The reds were all blocked up, it was really weird.”

AT&T has confirmed that the cheaper ad-supported version of HBO Max is set to debut in June.
In addition, the company has substantially raised its subscriber targets for HBO and HBO Max – expecting between 120 million-150 million HBO Max and HBO subscribers by the end of 2025. That’s nearly double their projected estimates in late 2019.
With the upward revision, AT&T expects HBO’s revenue to more than double over the next five years: “As HBO Max scales at a global level, the company plans to increase investment, with expectations for peak dilution in 2022 and break-even in 2025.”

I'm intrigued but not displeased. It appears the Snyder cut arrives on the VOD thing I have on March 18th; perhaps it's consolation for having the cable package that would carry HBO Max but doesn't because I'm not in the US.
It's not the worst compromise, but I'm still waiting on Wonder Woman 1984 dagnabbit. It's there but only to rent and it's 29 dollars for 48 hours. "That dog won't hunt, Monsignor". - Fry
