No Time to Die: Lashana Lynch Appears to Confirm She's Taking on the 007 Mantle
link I don’t know anything about the Xbox thing but I don’t think I consider the Lynch 007 thing to be woke at all. At least not yet, and I could be wrong, but there has always been a female 00 agent, dating all the way back to Thunderball in the Connery era. And we’ve had strong women leads even longer. Hell Pussy Galore actually did more in Goldfinger than Bond did - and that’s not hyperbole. We’ve even had at least 3 major black female co stars (May Day, Jynx, and now Lynch - plus Rosie, and variety of middle eastern, Asian, and Latin women as well). But perhaps most importantly, being “007” is not the same thing as being James Bond. Whenever James retires, somebody would be given the title, 007. Did they intentionally pick a black female for this part, probably, but when you think about it, nothing about any of this is new.

James Bond seems to have quit his job thus the 007 designation was free. MI6 hired someone to do his job and it was a black woman. I dont see anything woke with that.

Don't call her Jamie Bond, or anything lame like that.
Don't have her be 007, be 008 or 009.5.
Don't have her use the phrase: Bond. James Bond. Or any variation.
Let her stand or fail on her own. Don't use Bond as a crutch.

Whatever 00 number they give her, for me, she's no different than any of the other female sidekicks that have ever been in a Bond film. Having the 007 title specifically doesn't mean anything to me. She's just a female agent like any of the rest of them.

Exactly. Just another generic spy, in another generic spy movie. Make something good that can stand on its own. Don't just throw all the Bond tropes in a bowl filled with diversity and bake for 30 minutes.

I don’t look at it as a diversity statement. They’ve done this for decades. And I would call the Craig run generic. Maybe I’m missing your point? I’m not sure what the issue is.

Of course it's a diversity statement. They want to plug a person into a famous role because they want to "diversify", instead of creating a new character, with no connection to a pre-existing franchise, and letting them thrive.
They want diversity without financial risk.
And the Craig run on Bond was dreadful, IMHO. He's not James Bond, either. Connery, Moore, Dalton: those are my Bonds.

But they always create new characters in this franchise. How is it and different than Camille or May Day?

But they didn't call those films: MAY DAY in A VIEW TO A KILL, or Camille Montes Rivero in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, did they?
They will hype this as a James Bond film, yet there will be no James Bond in it.

James Bond is in it. Why do you think he isn’t? She isn’t the lead or anything.

Only he retired from MI6 and his job and designation was taken over by the Lashana Lynch character. But Daniel Craig will be the lead as James Bond.

Oh, I thought she was the lead. I don't like or care about the Craig Bond films, anyway, as he's not Bond to me, either.

Not happy with this You think they’ll try to do a spin off series with her? I haven’t gotten that impression but I suppose it’s possible. And I say spin off because I can’t imagine they won’t cast a new Bond and keep going with Bond movies.
