In Phoenix, a prequel, how can Raven/Mystique get killed? Same thing with Jean? Or how can Jean have all those powers when in the first movies that took place in present time she didn't?
Why is it they see the blue disappearing german guy (Klaus, I think but you know who I mean.) but in a previous movie that takes place in present time they act like they never met him before?
I don't get the X Men movies at all.
The more they make the more confused I get.

So from what I'm asking does this mean that the X Men franchise is acting like other franchises that ignore previous movies as if they didn't happen in the timeline? That it is the current trend of franchises such as Term, H.Ween, to some extent the SW PT (SW: "These blast points too accurate for Sandppl:" Pod race; Sand person blasts a racer from 10 miles away. LOL) and Alien. Fuck all the movies that came before and let's just make up a totally new one and now they are doing it with X Men?

Its a bunch of movies that try to be connected bjt absolutely are not. They tried to correct it with Days of Future Past but they spectaculary failed.

If you are answering for everyone and not just yourself, welp, that's that then! Actually I think you may be right because I came across a site that showed the sequence to watch them in and there is nothing to bridge in the gaps or plot holes I bring up. And I dunno if you watched Phoenix but a train goes off the tracks and crashes which Jean somehow manages to do and I'm feeling bad for the poor and innocent engineer. There should not be "collateral damage" in these movies from the "good" guys!

No. There is a user on IMDBv2 who thinks he can explain it all. Seek him out at your own peril.
At this point, there is no purpose in even trying.

Simple. Just stop after DoFP. Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix are terrible movies anyway so no one should consider them canon. DoFP provides a pretty solid finale. Making more with the prequel cast was both misguided and gratuitous.

Ever since they stopped filming New Mutants. We can stop trying to make sense out of it.

I just mean that it’s up to the individual to decide when to stop watching a franchise. Yes, they're all canon by definition because they exist. But it's kind of bizzare how the last two X movies are now widely used to invalidate the previous ones. For example, I love Alien, and it would be silly to hold Alien 3 against it.

I think it's best to think of every movie after X-Men 3 as a soft reboot.

The best explanation I ever heard was that movie R works well with movie S which relates well to movie T, but R and T somehow have nothing to do with each other.

I think it's best to think of every movie after X-Men 3 as a soft reboot. That’s basically it. First Class was a prequel meant to double as a soft reboot. Then they realized they could do a Days of Future Past adaptation. And personally I think the logical decision after that was to either continue with the original cast or simply end the series. But they wanted more with the new cast regardless of whether it made sense.
