MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - The Phoenix - A stolen experimental metal is smuggled into the Iron Curtain by hiding it in a modern art installation. While Rollin and Cinnamon pretend to be would-be assassins and Jim pretends to be a Soviet cop (seems he always has that part), Barney and Willy prepare a trap for their mark. When he is looking at the agent dossier, he gives a funny look to one guy who he rejects as if he is thinking "yuck-not this guy." The casual way he leaves the MIF dossier in his living room makes me assume he has really good security--never has to worry about someone coming in.
KOJAK - Cop in a Cage - Theo's niece is getting married but a vengeful ex-con--is there any other kind in cop shows--- (John P Ryan) plans to blow up the wedding party.
BARETTA - The Cappelli Oath - Tony kills a young criminal and his brother is sworn to kill him. Fred ends up in a shoebox as a warning. Funny thing with this is that a mobster arrives for the showdown in a station wagon. I was surprised by that--not a sedan, not a limo, a standard 70s station wagon with the fake wood side paneling.

MANNIX- To Cage a Seagull --- Joe's golf game is ruined when his "pigeon" dies in a helicopter crash. Turns out, the pilot saw a Hitler wannabe entering the country illegally by plane and had to die. Later Mannix is captured and learns that the rightwing group plans to activate sleeper cells to kill some cops to blame on the leftwing, thus ushering in a Fourth Reich led by a blonde guy who has a very bored way of speaking. What is it with these secret militia groups leaving their arsenal exposed with c-4 and detonators conveniently left on a table so Mannix can set a charge in a few seconds and blow up the compound?

The Wild Wild West- The Night of the Death Maker - Someone wants to kill President Grant and uses a monastery as a hideout. End of season 3. Some series I watch chronologically. This is one of them.
Mannix - Bang Bang, You're Dead - A child overhears a murder plot and Joe has to protect her while he seeks to expose it. Larry Linville seems to be the new police liaison for Mannix but will be replaced by Robert Reed by next season.
Cannon - Catch Me If You Can -- Anthony Zerbe hires Frank to catch a serial killer--who happens to be Zerbe. A police colleague thinks Cannon is being set up to be the next victim. For once, they did the ol' "keep him talking so we can trace the call" gag--and this time--it works--they do keep him on long enough to trace the call--but when they get there--Zerbe has already left and calls them from another phone.
He tells Cannon "you have the sensitivity of a grape fruit." At one point someone asks why Zerbe didn't seek a priest instead for his confession. They can't know this but he already did that in an episode of Ironside which was a crossover with Sarge.

IRONSIDE - I, the People ---Milton Berle is a shock jock tv host who rants about students being brainwashed on campus and also police brutality. When he gets death threats Ironside is sent to investigate. Berle co-wrote the script. The chief describes the professional tv agitator as : "a vampire who lives in an electronic coffin."
HEC RAMSEY - The Detroit Connection - Someone is blowing up oil wells and homesteaders--and the clues lead to a couple of newcomers from Detroit, which includes Angie Dickinson. I had trouble keeping focus because the soundtrack was ahead of the picture and had to rig it by computer so the thing was synced--but I had to periodically speed up the picture to keep it in sync. Not the kind of interactive television I prefer. Premiered 50 years ago today.

Letterkenny season 12...the final season. RIP Gus. A decent final season. More of a story driven season than most of the earlier ones. Theres kind of an awareness that its the final season that permeates throughout and its kind of a bittersweet thing because we don't expect to see any more adventures from Wayne, Katy, Daryl or Squirrelly D anytime soon. Great show overall, i highly recommend checking it out if you enjoy slightly more adult comedic sitcoms like Its Always Sunny. What If? Season 2....I do think this one went down smoother than season 1. Not really sure what was different, maybe I just knew exactly what to expect. If I have one criticism its that I do think that this type of a show would be a really cool way to introduce characters not already existing in the MCU. And I don't original characters like Kahhori, who was fine...but characters from Marvel comics that haven't been established. Something like showing the Fantastic Four as the crew of a ship in the 1602 episode (which is comic accurate to that storyline) wouldve been such a fun easter egg for us comic fans. I didn't mind Captain Carter as the main thread throughout several episodes. The evil Doctor Strange bit is fine...but I am tiring on it honestly. The world killer action sequence made me want to pause and see what they all were. Overall I enjoyed it for what it was. Star Trek TOS season 1...almost done.

HAWAII-FIVE--0 The Big Kahuna --- John Marley sees the goddess Pele but McGarrett thinks it must be a scam (good guess) and has the team investigate. Danno scares off a group of rapid hippies.
MANNIX - Deja-Vu - A young woman has a vision that Joe is killed and goes to see him. Her premonitions on another near-miss convinces him she does have clairvoyance. His usual police liaison Art is back.
CANNON- Press Pass to the Slammer - A mafia guy is killed--a reporter's witness says it was murder but she is protecting the source. As Frank is a friend, he tries to help her stay alive and gets beaten up--but later he kicks their asses.

McMILLAN & WIFE - "The Man Without A Face" - We learn (through stock footage from Tobruk) that Mac was a member of a spy team in his younger days and someone killed a former member. Mac has to talk to his former team mates to find the killer. One of them is living in retirement in Taos, New Mexico, the home of McCloud. The twist isn't bad. I would never have guessed the killer. I was frequently distracted by the weight loss battle between Rock Hudson and John Schuck. Who can lose the most weight before the next episode?
Sykes is played by Vito Scotti instead of John Astin. Premiered 50 years ago today.

THE WILD WILD WEST - The Night of the Big Blackmail -- Season 4 premiere was really good. Harvey Korman is a foreign dignitary (with a loud voice) who faked a (very primitive) film of the US president making a secret arms agreement. Jim and Artie have to steal the film and then replace it. There is a neat scene where the former has to fight off some men while holding onto a lever to prevent it from releasing a door while the latter is trying to get into a vault without being crushed by the same door. Also, a cat thwarts their trickery to fool some goons. But the best part is when they show the film--which they have edited to make it impossible to believe--and afterwards, Artie says that if he made a longer film, he could probably get people to pay to watch it--and Jim scoffs at the idea.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE - Trial By Fury - Barney and Phelps have to pose as prisoners to save a political dissident mistaken for a snitch so he doesn't get killed by the other inmates (led by Sid Haig, Paul Winfield, and Victor French). I liked it.
IN THE LINE OF DUTY-THE FBI MURDERS 1988 -- Riveting tv-movie in which David Soul and Michael Gross (playing a real creep) are bank robbers who are hunted by the FBI. A real piece of work this pair is--and the shoot-out which was apparently very close to the real deal--is very intense. Soul has quite a memorable exit.

KOJAK - Marker To A Dead Bookie --- Kojak wants to nail a crime boss by posing as a crooked cop so he can get him to entrap himself with a drug charge. But the mobster has his own ideas. Really though-can anyone with more hair than Kojak ever win?
Premiered 50 years ago this week.
BANACEK - The Vanishing Chalice--- I thought I saw all the Banaceks a few years back but this one slipped through like a stolen Greek chalice. Carly, his regular rival, seeks to get Banacek on the job with the insurance company so she can be his apprentice or associate but Banacek calls her his assistant and spends the episode finding every way he can to annoy her. Guest star Caesar Romero punches Banacek off his feet while John Saxon plays a weird game of Russia Roulette with him while Eric Braedan is a nerd. One of the better episodes. Premiered 50 years ago this week. Polish proverb: "Though the hippopotamus has no sting in his tail, the wise man would rather be sat on by the bee."

I'm trying The Watchmen series. It's pretty cool/interesting. It borrows from the ending of the book instead of the movie. I'm on episode 5. I've always liked Regina King. Jeremy Irons too. Jean Smart does really well. She always reminds me of Kim Catrall, or maybe it's the other way around.
It's decent though, I like it. It's ugly and grounded and almost delightfully upsetting.

Better Call Saul - Season 6....I binged through most of BCS about a year ago, but at that time the final season wasn't available so I had to wait. Then when it finally did become available I was invested in other shows or hobbies. Well I finally got an itch to revisit the Gilliverse again so I figured why not finish the show. All things considered, this was an excellent ending. It worked on a lot of levels. The BCS prequel era ending worked wonderfully as a lead in to Breaking Bad, as well as really being a rather fantastic story featuring a ton of the characters we know and loved from BB but also adding so many more that I definitely got way too invested in. The Jimmy/Kim relationship is easily the heart of the series. There was a subtlety right out of the gate but it really becomes more apparent the more we get to know them and its really kind of tragic that they never really got the happy ending I wanted for them. But happy endings were rarely the case in this world. Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seahorn were both fantastic in this aspect. Their love felt genuine. I also really loved the expansion of Mike Ehrmentrauts character. Seeing where he started, his motivations, and how he came to be with a man like Gus Fring is all really great. Nacho Varga was a splendid character who...of all the decisions in season 6, him meeting his end so earlier was probably the one that hurt the most. I guess its just as well rather than him mull about or go missing for episodes at a time but I got really invested in his character. The Salamancas are amazing! Back in BB...Tuco was a wildman, but he wasn't as nuanced as the other characters so I kind of just took him at face value. But in this series, really getting to explore the Salamanca family...whew. They could be a prequel show of their own. Tuco, Hector, the Twins, and the cream of the crop Lalo...all so violent, so insane...so much fun for tv. Lalo was the standout in BCS in the latter seasons. To the point where...i dont know if I was supposed to root for him at times, but I surely did. When hes stalking Fring through a few eps of season 6 I was so excited to see him make his move. Tony Dalton is one charismatic fella. The black and white sequel stuff was ok, especially once Saul gets arrested. The stuff before that was kind of a distracting slog if im honest. Only because there was so much more interesting stuff happening in the past tho. I was eager to leave the future and get back to Kim and Nacho and Mike and New Mexico. But that final shared cigarette between Jimmy and Kim was a really great scene. Overall...theres a good chance I enjoy this series more than Breaking Bad. But when two products are so intertwined as these, what's the point in separating them? It's a great show. I don't know if theres a logical expansion on this universe but I'd be on board for it if it ever developed.

THE INVADERS - The Condemned - Ralph Bellamy escapes the aliens who are using his plant for their schemes (Murray Hamilton is the leader--seems like he played an alien before but maybe I am wrong). David Vincent shows up to talk to him but he gets framed for his murder even though Bellamy is alive. Bellamy's estranged daughter (Marlyn Mason--who was in a recent Cannon I watched)also comes to town and the aliens use her to bring him out of hiding. The last episode I have of season 1.
MANNIX - Return to Summer Grove -- Joe gets a visit late at night from a mysterious woman in the shadows--the way she enters, you know automatically this must be someone of consequence. Sure enough, it's Vera Miles, and we don't need any dialogue to know she is his hometown crush who married the football quarterback instead of him. Now the quarterback (Troy) is charged with a murder. Worse, he is paralyzed from the neck down and in an iron lung. Kudos to Miles for not making the scene a laugh riot when we see her husband in a glass case with his head sticking out. The laughs come later when Joe, with a neck brace after someone tried to kill him (and Marion Ross--as the other woman who was jilted so Troy could marry Miles who is "out of his league"), has a fight with someone by the iron lung as he desperately tries to reconnect it (turns out Troy doesn't need it to breath and he's gonna be back on his feet. We never find out what happened to Marion Ross' character who for some reason Mannix calls by her last name half the time). Also, Victor Jory plays Mannix Sr. so there is a little father atonement subplot as well.
CANNON - Deadly Heritage - Beverly Garland who I always enjoy seeing is disturbed by a burglar who turns out to be a young man that she knows. Interestingly, when she first thinks he is going to kill her, she says she is 50 and therefore lived a full life. She, being a rich art patron (wish I had one of those), gets her friend Frank to search for him --because--she says, he was the son of her deceased husband who she told him to forget about and now she feels guilty since he was raised in an orphanage. Cannon goes to a police contact (think we have seen her before) who he bribes with some pastry dish he bought for her--fully expecting she would share it with him. She does not--saying "I don't have to watch my figure, you do." To which Cannon says in disappointment, "Yeah I am the one watching your figure."
Frank soon learns that the young thief she is seeking is shacked up with a few southern caricatures led by John (reminds you of Carradine) Anderson who is dressed like Mark Twain and sounds like Foghorn Leghorn as "Major Bliss." Always have to watch out for anyone with a southern accent in 60s-70s tv...at least until Uncle Jessie, Daisy, and the Duke brothers come along). The plot gets even thicker when we learn that Garland is actually the mother of the burglar--and that is why she is so eager to find him.
How coincidental that I watched three random shows that had themes of parent-child estrangement.

KOJAK - Last Rites For a Dead Priest - Jackie Cooper plans a robbery of a jewelry convention while disguised as a priest. When Kojak gets on his case, he messes up the lieutenant's suit which makes Kojak very mad. The thing about this show is--the less hair you have, the more likely you will make it through the show unscathed. Premiered 50 years ago this week.
McCLOUD - A Cowboy in Paradise - Chief Clifford goes to Hawaii to attend a cop convention but learns when he is on the plane that a certain colleaguel from Taos New Mexico was also invited--with a first class ticket. Clifford's problems multiply when he is framed for a murder. Lousie (Mary Hartman) Lasser shows up as a New York cop who just happens to be on vacation too. My assumption is that this was originally intended for Teri Garr since they seem to know her. At the end she asks to stay an extra three days and Clifford lets her have four.
McCloud asks, "what about me chief?" and he says, "You've done enough goofing off--back to work."
This was one show where you expected to see McGarrett or Danno walking by in the background.
Premiered 50 years ago today.

THE WILD WILD WEST - The Night of the Doomsday Formula--A scientist is kidnapped by Kevin McCarthy (a stoic general who becomes an arms dealer) in order to get the --you guessed--a doomsday weapon formula. Highlight is where Artie dons the disguise of an arab sheik and starts playing a guitar solo with the most awful singing in order to distract McCarthy. It is so absurdly weird and terrible--I laughed out loud.
MOD SQUAD - Deal with the Devil -- Only watched this out of curiosity as it was the tv show that led in to The Night Stalker tv-movie when it premiered. Funny enough, guest star Leslie Nielsen plays a journalist and wears a funny hat. I am not impressed with this series at all. The title sequence is dull and the cast didn't leave much of an impression--and this is a high-rated episode.
KOJAK -Death is Not A Passing Grade - Kojak teaches a class and one of his students (James Woods) plays a game with him involving theft and murder. Good episode--I am only amazed how much depth they can get into 48 minutes without it feeling too short. Premiered 50 years ago this week.

BANACEK - A Horse of a Slightly Different Color - Literally--a horse disappears on a racetrack and it was due to a slight change of color. Banacek gets a beating in the episode and never gets the chance to pay the people back for it. Not so suave but since he gets 10% of $5 million he doesn't mind. Pamela Hensley appears briefly and she was in the Kojak I watched last night. And this also premiered 50 years ago this month.
COLUMBO- Publish or Perish -- Jack Cassidy kills Mickey Spillane and frames himself for it. Rather clever in order to throw off Columbo. A lawyer named David Chase criticizes the lieutenant for his methods--I am assuming that was an injoke since Chase was at Universal at the time. There's also a reference to Rock Hudson. Premiered 50 years ago (although it apparently aired on a Friday instead of Sunday since a McCloud episode had the slot).
MCMILLAN & WIFE - Reunion In Terror - Members of Mac's football team from college are being killed and he suspects it is one of the team members. There's a weird dramatic scene where the nerdish jeweler husband of the team's promiscuous cheerleader gets fed up with knowing everyone on the team had a trist with his wife so he grabs the wife of one of the other players (not Sally) and plans to rape her in the McMIllan's bedroom as revenge! Even Mildred doesn't have a quip for that. Premiered 50 years ago tonight.

The New Adventures of Huck Finn - The Gorgon's Head - Revisting. I am sure I have seen it before.
MANNIX - Duet For Three -- This one had a good twist I didn't see coming. They set up a red herring for the murderer and then throw a curve ball.
Interestingly, the other two shows I watched also used red herrings effectively.
IRONSIDE - In The Line of Duty - A cop friend of the chief is killed and Ironside seeks to find the killer. Vera Miles is the widow--she is everywhere in the shows I watch. This is a completely straight episode with no goofiness.
CANNON -season three two hour episode - He Who Digs A Grave --this was a very twisty show with big stars. David Janssen is accused of murdering his wife (Cathie Lee Crosby) and has his friend Frank (who owes him a favor) help him out. Anne Baxter is the mayor of the town of Mercer (I am sure that has turned up as the location in something else I watched recently). She and Cannon have some good scenes together. Barry Sullivan is the religious fanatic sheriff. Murray Hamilton has a funny part as a guy who likes to shoot clay pigeons and then confesses to Frank that he is impotent. There's also Virginia Gregg as a crazy bird expert who wants to shoot Cannon until a raven lands on him and she takes it a sign to trust him. Considered by some the best episode of the series.
