The moment women start protesting Hemsworth and Evans being shirtless too much I will start paying attention to those comments. The irony is, at least IMO, she's been the least sexualized sexually exploitive character I can think of. As in she's a James Bond style sleep with everybody super spy, and we've seen less skin from her than RDJ. And, I would note, the demand is exponentially higher.

This movie, sight unseen, already has the distinction of showcasing my favorite Black Widow look. Outstanding. Guess Im more conservative (intentional ), I preferred her look in Avengers 1. In the picture above, she looks like a dirty li.....! Rhymes with rib. Sorry lol had to do it. Right there for the taking. No offense to anyone

ArArArchStanton It’s almost time to settle our bet! When did we make this thing anyway? Feels like two years ago at least!

Nothing yet for Jahns I hate to say it but I have yet to read or watch a truly positive review for this one. Everyone seems to have enjoyed it, but none of them really seem to think it’s a great movie. It’s giving me flashbacks to the “positive” WW84 reviews (a movie I ended up hating), though I doubt BW will be as disappointing as that one. Personally I’ll be happy as long as it’s watchable and enjoyable. I’m not a huge Nat fan so I don’t need this to be one of the MCU’s best. EDIT: Just watched the Stuckmann review. You weren’t kidding. He has never been this hard on Marvel before. I was kind of surprised.

Stuckmann thought this film was average. Although across the board there seem to be issues. Campea and Randolph too. Nothing yet for Jahns I've gorged on promotional material, but I haven't watched any reviews, and I don't plan to until after seeing the movie. I have noticed a trend on Twitter, though, where people are asking far too much of this movie. They want it to be a top-tier female-led superhero, a "fitting" farewell to a character (who is not yet dead as of the story's events), and they want it to add to the overall narrative of the MCU. I don't know the specifics of these complaints, but I will say straight out of the gate, that's all a bit much for a single movie. For me, the movie doesn't have to rationalize or justify the character's existence for the last decade in the MCU. All it has to do is validate what I've known all along; Black Widow is as cool AF. I've wanted a Black Widow movie ever since I saw Iron Man II, and I've been a long-time fan of the character since her Marvel Knights series. All I need this film to do is exist and be above average. A friend of mine who works for SyFy got a screener, and he assures me that as a Black Widow fan, I'm going to be pleased with the movie. We tend to agree more times than not, so I'm still very excited to see this film. I have his word that Black Widow is far from a WW84-type fiasco (IMO - props to those who loved that film). Just in case, I've rigged his house with C4 set to detonate if the RT drops below 70%. :-)

I actually read the spoilers for the film (I know, i know) and honestly it sounds like this would have been a third film in a Black Widow Trilogy. Which makes me wonder if Marvel Studios did this film as more of an obligation to Scarlett Johansson. Like how Captain Marvel felt like Marvel Studios response to the sexism criticism.

I’m personally kind of glad that she’s only getting one movie. I like Scarlett a lot, but I don’t find Black Widow to be all that interesting. I do like the fact that she has a solo outing to fill in her backstory, but I doubt I could’ve cared about an entire trilogy. Based on what few spoilers I’ve read this one sounds very similar to The Bourne Ultimatum so I can see why you say it feels like a part 3.

I personally feel like she should have been given a Trilogy, even of they had her team up with other supporting characters like Hawkeye. I'll still watch the film but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be going in with low expectations. Hopefully with the inevitable reboot the character will get better treatment.

I might have felt differently had they started her solo franchise in Phase 1-2. We could’ve actually seen her and Hawkeye meet and join SHIELD, which would’ve been pretty great. I am only moderately interested in her mythology though. But I do love the idea of Red Guardian being in the movie. And reviewers are pretty unanimous in calling him a highlight of the movie.

I just wanted a cool spy film, if it can do that Ill be thrilled

I just wanted a cool spy film, if it can do that Ill be thrilled Agreed, and if you were not a Black Widow fan before this movie, in the MCU in general, or even from the comic books, this movie is likely not for you. What are the odds that this film would make you a fan? If that were my situation, I'd probably sit this one out (as I did for Aquaman and Wonder Woman). A fair amount of people seem determined to see this film to validate their feelings that they never liked the character. That makes no sense to me. I am looking forward to catching up with the reviews AFTER I've seen the movie and decided for myself. Above all else, I hope the film has some tension and that the rest of the cast doesn't completely steal the movie from Johansson.

Also all these reviews are spoiler-free (the ones I mentioned in my earlier post) “The MCU has a dedicated room titled When It Gets Too Heavy We Deflect with Jokes.” -Jeremy Johns Seriously though, this is another shockingly negative review from a reviewer that usually praises the MCU. He even calls Taskmaster the most disappointing villain they’ve ever done. I’m definitely a bit concerned now. But still very excited to see this in theaters next weekend.

I can’t say for sure yet but Johns has been one of those anti humor people for awhile now. I don’t dismiss the feeling but I also don’t get it. The MCU humor has always felt entirely natural to me. As in its stuff real people wild say and do so I’d guess this film is similar and I’ll love it. F him lolololol. JK

I LOVE the way the humor works in The Avengers (2012) for instance. And I think that’s what they are trying to emulate most of the time. Only it doesn’t always work as well (to me anyway). Sometimes there are genuinely great dramatic moments that absolutely do not need jokes- yet Marvel puts them in anyway when they should just let the moment play. It’s usually not an issue for me though in most of their movies- only a few.
