Ive been watching Syfy's Dark Matter recently. It's about a crew on a spaceship who wake up from suspended animation with their memories wiped. Anyway, there's this one episode where it is revealed that one of the crew members is a very advanced synthetic. She is flesh and blood, also consequently has a beating heart. However, it was all constructed. She wasnt born.
Would you count her as a human being? Does she have human rights? What about the ability of being able to reproduce? Does this matter or is it irrelevant?

I absolutely love that show (the first 2 seasons the most) and the character you are talking about was the best character on the show, so you can call her whatever you want.

I've never seen the show, but I would classify this individual as a synthetic human - not inferior or superior to a traditionally born human, just a human on a parallel track to our species.

I've been meaning to look into it. I remember the trailer when it was new. It's a broad strokes situation I think. I'd consider them a synthetic human, so not a biological human or a human being. I would however consider them a person.

Sounds to me like they're alive and think and feel. I wonder if there will be a "Measure of A Man" type episode in its future.

I mean it wouldnt be their fault for being artificially constructed by whoever it may be

But I would start from the premise that they have and enjoy rights already. If they think and feel for themselves it makes them alive.
