Derrickson will write the script with C. Robert Cargill, his frequent collaborator who also worked with him on the Marvel superhero movie Doctor Strange.

Oh yes, lets remake one of the most creative and fascinating movies ever. I'm sure that will work out just great.

Makes sense though--it has all the elements----evil Christian Southerner and male toxicity. The problem is--who can play the part with any kind of gravitas comparable to Mitchum? I am assuming Ryan Gosling or maybe Mark Wahlberg.

I am assuming Ryan Gosling or maybe Mark Wahlberg. It will be Timothée Chalamet. He'll deliver a selfless performance that lacks vanity and superficial trickery. Big Tim will likely chop off his overflowing locks, and along with them will go his likability but not his chances for an Oscar. "Chiiilll... dren!" A star is born… again.

In all seriousness, perhaps Jon Hamm could had been a good fit as Harry Powell. Or maybe Jeffrey Dean Morgan. But both are too old now.
