I'm only recently sitting down to see what STar Trek is all about...so Ill have to come back to this in a few months when I revisit Khan for the first time in 30 yrs. But for now it is Star Wars....even if Empire is my least favorite of the original trilogy.

Empire easily.
I honestly never thought the Trek movies captured the essence of the show. I think I may be the only person who thought the first movie did a better job of that.

The Empire Strikes Back is likely the better movie, considering its scope, scale, and memorable set pieces; however, when the chips are down, and I need to find an epic sci-fi classic, I will likely put on The Wrath of Khan for the rewatch. The primary reason is that The Empire Strikes Back always feels like a film I must watch in sequence with the other films in the trilogy. - and I rarely ever have that kind of time.
While technically a part of a serialized story, The Wrath of Khan stands on its own far better. Also, as a pure revenge story, the drama of The Wrath of Khan feels more sophisticated than the O'Henry-type motifs of secret sisters and hidden fathers.

They're both movies that make me think it doesn't get much better than this. My edge goes to Star Wars because it of its size and scope. Wrath of Khan feels like an installment whereas ESB feels like an act. I'd even argue that ESB has just the right amount of fat, and Wrath of Khan is exactly the right type of lean.
My edge still goes to Empire but it's about as close as it can reasonably get. They're both delights for me.

Both are great but "The Wrath of Khan" is best.

Montalban's All Time Great villain portrayal noses TWoK ahead for the win.

On a related note, the seemingly miscast Cumberbunch killed it at almost the same level in STID

On a related note, the seemingly miscast Cumberbunch killed it at almost the same level in STID I thought Cumberbatch was great too. Movie was solid imo but I understand it didnt do really anything new for Trek fans? Some kind of criticism like that (which doesnt surprise me as Abrams also made Force Awakens lol). Ive never seen Wrath of Khan. I just stumbled upon the critical drinker's video and thought it was interesting. I was looking for something else originally and I think it appeared as a video suggestion on the side with that list you get lol

Cumberbatch is a great actor but the downgrade in menace (and sexy btw) from Montalban is too big.
