Starring Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke.
Metaphorical, but not realistic.
- Deer never, and never will, act like that in the real world. - No flamingos naturally in New York. - Lyme disease doesn't make your teeth fall out. Especially a day after getting bitten.
I imagine those deer are supposed to be symbolic metaphors (Oh dear (deer), this is terrible). Wildlife has been through world wars and naturally occurring catastrophes. Their behavior doesn't change that much. Flamingos live in the tropics and subtopics. No reason to ever fly to New York.
Too much vagueness (vaguery) in an attempt to create mysterious tension. Normal people are not so full of secrets. Too many facial expressions signifying somebody knows something they aren't saying..
Normal people get to the bottom of things more quickly. And normal people --- even survivalist --- don't behave like that.
I imagine this movie exaggerated everything to make a point. But it ends up being too annoyingly slow and aggravating.
The home was beautiful. The acting was good. But the plot and dialogue got ridiculous.
The children come across as just bad kids. Yes, brothers and sisters can be awful to each other. But not usually in an emergency. The brother was just a jerk continuously to his little sister. And no daughter would just leave her family under those circumstances without telling anybody where she was going. Or even goodbye.
I'll turn off a terrible movie. I watched this all the way to the end. But . . . 5 out of 10 for me.
Have you seen it?
What do you think?

I’m getting flashbacks of Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin from the ‘War of the Worlds’ remake.
