What year would it be and why?
And you don’t get to change anything. Not anything major anyway.
For me, it’s 1997. I’ll give away for the first time ever, that was my senior year. I spent a lot of time at Panama City Beach. Spring Break was beyond words. The beaches were packed in a nonstop party for miles and miles and miles. I saw No Doubt, Seven Mary Three, and other notable bands out there and played volleyball every weekend. Club Lavela hosted bikini and wet T-shirt contests on the pool deck and a fortunate fluke at school where the period times had been redesigned, meant I had essentially graduated halfway through the year. I was out there half the day. Rock music was at its zenith, I was dreaming of moving back to Central Florida for the first time, I have fond memories of rolling houses, great times I wish I could share with you of my extended family, shenanigans and pranks I pulled, and even though I don’t know her anymore, I started dating one of the most influential women in my life. It was a big and exciting year for sure.
What about you?

2012 for me. My first overseas trip, with friends from high school. It was a blast! We went to Thailand. My exams finished later than everyone else (uni days). So I had to join them later on. They also went to Vietnam and Cambodia beforehand as a result. Long story short- In Nam, a friend's friend's bag was stolen by a rider on a motorbike while in Cambodia they fired some AKs at some coconuts.
Anyway on to Thailand. The atmosphere was great, really relaxing. From the airport made my way to some Bangkok (capital city) accommodation to meet them. Beforehand on the plane was prepping with common phrases in the local tongue. I never used any of it apart from hello lol. We were only there for a day, visited a famous marketplace to get acquainted. Lots of various wares. Crickets were exotic food but I was too much of a pussy to eat it.
On to Koh Phangan (pronounced Koh-pan-yang), an island. This was the best part. We stayed at a very cheap hostel. Oh btw the reason we chose to go to South East Asia a) to travel and b) cheap currency exchange. 1AUD is 30 Thai Baht. So yeah cheap hostel, 5 buckeroos per night. The place was called Moonstone Hostel and weirdly had some pink playboy bunny decoration lol. No, it wasnt gay pride central-obligatory nothing wrong with that. A friend theorised it was to make the place memorable, so to spread the info between travellers. Oh Moonstone the pink bunny place, marketing 101 I guess. Steve booked the accommodation, he was a cheap cunt lol, not that anyone was complaining. Pretty much bunk beds and I think the first night had no electricity, so fans were a no-go. Many chill peeps at this place and the island. Other Australians, Chile, France, UK, Americans etc. All four corners of the globe.
Pool party where you could get lots of cheap beer plus a laughing gas balloon. You can get the large buckets with a thousand straws beforehand. Half moon party-in the jungle. Full Moon party (famous party for revelers) is on a beach but we werent in Thailand at that point, so the jungle it was. Ko Phi Phi-another island-party central-fire shows and a beach. Kangaroo Bar was here- special shroom drink. Have to buy boat tickets between islands and the mainland too. Reggae bar-boxing ring in the middle of the joint, Muay Thai style. I stupidly challenged a friend who actually trained in martial arts for a little bit. I lost. Vomited quickly in the pouring rain aferwards and returned to obtain my reward of a bucket of booze. Next day had a massive purple bruise on my thigh and some 'ouch' limping for a couple of days. It was worth it
Thailand is an amazing place though. Fresh chilled coconuts with a straw. Gourmet style meals for 5 bucks-I remember you Israeli salad for some reason lol. Beaches- warm and fresh, very clear water. Tarot card readings and restaurants on the beach (literally plastic chairs on the sandy shore with the water a few metres away) Free wifi at all cafes. Cheap massages, sometimes with a happy ending. Everyone is just awesome and happy (some amazing girls too-I remember a certain French girl with unique pretty blue eyes-she was great). The locals are really friendly too. I remember on one island the bikes didnt have bells so the riders just made the bell noise themselves lol. Sa-wa-di means hello and thats all you really need to know, also put your hands together if you like when saying it (as if you were praying, flat hands not bent). Island tours-some include fruit and drinks. You go sight seeing on a ferry. You can sit on the edge with your legs out if you want. One particular island tour had an eccentric 'captain'. He was on pot, it was being passed around too. He let me have the steering wheel for a little while. My friends just couldnt believe it, it's like oh no, im at the wheel-we're going to crash or go overboard-their thoughts. Steve was shaking his head. Due to that I knew why Cap Jack Sparrow just lets the wheel spin when turning around, it isnt like a car's steering wheel
At a certain point at the pool party-my friend tells it way better lol. I was pretty much an idiot. Dont judge.
My mates, some hostel room-mates and I attended it. It was a typical Thailand night. It was warm, loud music playing, lots of people wanting to cut loose and a lot drinking the 'national' cheap beer called Singha and the typical Thai buckets with a thousand straws. Some of us were horsing around, myself included. I was pushing some people into the pool, safely of course but I pushed one too many. One happened to be, not my words, 'sexy' dancing, whatever that means. Turns out he had a camera on him at the time and had taken quite a few photos. So yeah I pushed that guy in. Who brings a camera to a pool party anyway?
He goes into the water. He has no clue what just happened or who was responsible. You could say I suddenly broke his trance of 'sexy' dancing. Next thing, Im in the pool myself and grab a friend's hat in jest. Turns out it wasnt my friend's hat. It belonged to my best friend, the camera guy. As you can imagine, he wasnt too impressed. We all got out of the pool. So it was a couple of mates, the camera guy and I trying to work things out. Out of nowhere a friend of mine suddenly says, “He pushed you in!”. He indicated myself. So an already awkward situation became more awkward. I ended up paying the guy for his camera, deservedly so. No thanks to that drunk friend haha. Also I didnt really want things to escalate any further. Didnt really want to be Robert Pattinson in 'Good Time'.
Special mention to the Queensland year when I was in primary school

What year would it be and why? And you don’t get to change anything. Not anything major anyway. For me, it’s 1997. I’ll give away for the first time ever, that was my senior year. 1977. My father started having various medical issues that started coming to light in 1978. This eventually led to medical consultations, surgery, recovery, further medical consultations, further surgery and eventually his death in 1980. I don't want to change anything, I just want one more year with my Dad, back before any storm clouds appeared on the horizon.

I am sorry for your loss, but it makes me smile to know you had that era of great memories.

In recent years I would defo say 2014. Bought my first ''expensive'' car and had a lot of good road trips in it. Got a better new job at the beginning of the year. The FIFA World cup was on in the summer and remember having a great time watching that with friends. It was also a really hot summer too which is quite rare in the UK. And had some of best times going to cinema that year with releases of Winter Soldier, Days of future past and Intersteller.

The reunion was ok but really really unexpected

The reunion was ok but really really unexpected Im not gonna do it. Its more than 30 years ago and this is not gonna add to my life in any way. I actually forgotten about her untill this thread. So Im gonna forget her again. Im old. Shouldnt be too much of an issue to forget something.
