This one really cuts deep. I was just revisiting Blood Meridian. He was a truly amazing writer. RIP Cormac McCarthy.

Ive only read The Road and No Country for Old Men...but Blood Meridian has been on my reading list for about 15 years now. Maybe this is the spark to finally get me to commit.

Forgot how violent the book is, but that's nothing new for McCarthy. The kid/The Man's character arc is compelling.

I don’t have any issue with violence or blood but the two I’ve read left me feeling rather bleak. So I always took it that McCarthy had that vibe which while interesting isn’t always something I’m looking for. So that’s the big reason I haven’t picked anything else up.

Yes, his work isn't hopeful in the traditional way, but McCarthy is great at expressing the dignity and possibly the beauty in acceptance. This haunting exchange between the titular 'Counselor' and 'Jefe', in an otherwise muddled movie, have always felt like a good example of McCarthy's work thematically.
