I dont like this at all but this is a given, given the pandemic. Hopefully people's minds will change in the future and the steady improvement of the pandemic. I wonder how Nolan's Tenet will perform? If this doesnt get people out, then yeah... Study Shows 70% of Consumers Would Rather Watch New Movies at Home (EXCLUSIVE) link

I will want to go back at some point. Not sure about Tenet though think it may be too early.

They'll change their minds, especially if theaters in their own towns start disappearing and they don't even have the option anymore.

I've never cared much for cinemas or theatres. I think the last time I went was either late 2002 or early 2003.
I much prefer to watch a new film of TV series in the comfort of my own home.
You can't hit pause in the cinema if you want to nip out for a coffee or a piss.

I used to go to the movie theatre quite often, back when I had much less time than I do so now, in fact. If there was a movie I wanted to see, I'd go see it.
However, over time the movie theatres started showing more and more ads before the movie. It's now gotten to the stage where I think there are roughly 30 minutes of ads (including trailers for other movies) before the actual movie starts (this is especially painful when the movie you're going to see is a pretty long one).
Add to this^ the fact that you can pretty much guarantee that there's always going to be someone who has brought their screaming/crying child, someone who just WON'T SHUT UP, someone whose phone rings, people wandering around - all of this was enough to put me off wanting to go as much as I once did.
It's a shame, because there have been quite a few movies I've wanted to see at the theatre, but didn't because of the off-putting things mentioned above^.
I saw on the news that when theatres open here there is going to be big spacing between where people sit and whatnot. It was already hard to find a seat at times before all this. I don't know if now it's going to be easier or harder (on the one hand, fears of the virus may keep people away, but on the other there's going to be fewer seats available since there'll be all this spreading out of the seating).
Having said all this^, wild horses couldn't keep me away from watching Wonder Woman 1984 in the theatre (I've been anxiously awaiting this film for roughly three years, after all).

I get the convenience. Lord knows I use it occasionally but I genuinely enjoy the theater going experience. There are some movies that I need to see on the big screen.

I haven't been to the theater in years. The smell of popcorn makes me nauseous. It ain't worth it.

Count my in the opposing 30% then. Despite the fact I've occasionally railed against theaters for how much their prices make people prefer to stay home and give streaming services the upper hand, I like going to theaters. The emptier they are, the better for me. Sometimes you practically have to plug your nose and only look straight to get to the part of the theater that matters, the screens, but I'm good with that too.
I'll take what I can get. I'd rather not do the VIP experience. That just sounds funny to me. But I do like IMAX and 3D, but despite that, I'm fine with watching it on just about any screen.
Also I'm anticipating drive-ins making a comeback. That would be cool. It's one of the coolest experiences I've never done.

Having said all this^, wild horses couldn't keep me away from watching Wonder Woman 1984 in the theatre (I've been anxiously awaiting this film for roughly three years, after all). The number of commercials they show before the movie is cruel. I don't even mind the trailers (despite the fact many of them go a solid minute longer than they need to and give away too much) but when they start showing the same ads you see on TV, like for cars, that makes me wanna start swinging.
It hurts because I'm already a 'be in the theater on-time' type of person because you never know. I once let someone talk me into not being in a theater at the beginning because what are the odds there aren't any trailers? Well there weren't. I facepalmed so hard I almost knocked my head clean off my shoulders. Not just for the movie but for letting myself be talked into dragging my feet.
Yeah it sucks if the movie's long. Avengers: Endgame is already 3 hours. Combined with ads and trailers...if I didn't get out at like 2am I'd have to rugby tackle my way to the bathroom.
Totally in it for Wonder Woman 1984. Cinema, Drive In, I'll take anything but my house unless my house is the only option.
