Not been a good year for Margot Robbie between this and Amsterdam.

I saw the film yesterday and found myself aggressively indifferent to it. I find human avarice and debauchery boring. I suppose the film achieved its objective as an unvarnished look at 1920s Hollywood.
That said, Babylon isn't horrible, and its greatest crime, if any, is emotionally manipulating its audience to feel sentimental over a business that routinely employs emotional manipulation to make money.
The cast turns in satisfactory work on the film, and the sets and costumes are just as lavish as the trailers suggest, if not more so. I think the film's failures are tactical for the most part.
I am trying to understand how anyone thought this movie would be a). good counter-programming for Avatar 2, and b). a good pairing with the North American holiday season (given some of the more explicit content).
Who doesn't want to be dunked in a torrent of animal feces for the holidays?
Robbie is bound to bounce back; she's a very talented actress.
