Just watched the first two episodes...some quick thoughts without spoiling anything.
The world doesn't feel the same. The original Willow had a lot more dirt and mud and felt much more lived in than this series does, so far. It makes sense if we're attributing that change in aesthetic to Sorsha being Queen now rather than the evil Bavmorda from the original film...but without a heavy dose of the music to help balance it out this world does often feel like it could be any other fantasy world rather than the one from Willow. I hope they lean more into the musical cues of the film in the future, or just make it memorable on its own.
I like the cast a lot, especially Ellie Bamber as Dove and Tony Revolori as Prince Graydon. The ensemble of characters has some nice interactions as well and fills a lot of gaps in an adventuring party. Their 'fellowship', as it were, is a good one overall. I like that the adventure starts somewhat right away.
Some of the dialog and delivery feels far too modern and occasionally takes me right out of the immersion. In episode 1 it mostly came from Kit and Aryk. It makes sense the younger characters would talk like youths but it feels off kilter from a fantasy setting and more like theyre standing outside a Starbucks.
I'm a big fan of the original movie so I'm going to be in on this unless they do something ridiculous to derail it...and so far I'm enjoying what I see.

Watched episode 3...still really enjoying the show, but theyve opted for their own aesthetic. Its a fine one...but a more modern stylish one rather than the original films. Decent battles this episode. Not much has changed for me character wise...I still like Elora and Graydon the most out of the group. I do really enjoy the take on Willow here. He's confident in himself but growing older and weaker and is an old man now so he's a stubborn, but its a stubborn people listen to as opposed to a stubborness built from being ignored. It makes him at times unlikeable but reminiscent of so many peoples grandfathers. The Borman character is a mystery to me tho. Maybe I missed something...I'm not really sure how to take him. He was a prisoner or Sorsha but also Madmartigans squire? who is locked up in the beginning of the series but set free when the city is in danger and pardoned if he helps the group get Arik back but lies about where he's going to his compatriots...I thought he was abandoning them...literally tries not to help Kit when she's in danger (for comedic relief sure but also...he didn't) but also fights hard against the people trying to kill or capture the rest of the group. What is this guys deal? I kind of feel like they took as many cool character traits as they could and threw them all at this guy without bothering to see if they meshed together well. It's kind of jarring...but still entertaining on a surface level. Also pictures don't really do justice to how captivated I am by Ruby Cruz as Kit. Theres at least one shot an episode that lingers on her and I'm here for it.

The third episode was a little better than the first 2 but the show still feels just ok. It doesn't have the magic and fantasy feel of the original but it is entertaining enough. I don't understand why some characters talk like modern people and some characters dress like modern people. It feels really strange. The action scenes have been pretty good but not spectacular.

It is pretty jarring hearing Kit talk like a Gen Z'er and then transitioning to Ralph Ineson as Ballantine who, imo, fits the fantasy aesthetic perfectly. It's almost like they didn't think kids today could relate to fantasy characters feeling like they're in a fantasy world. And also, it probably wouldn't be as jarring if the world wasn't already established by the movie.

I am planning to watch this. I just rewatched the movie. Which felt like Star Wars meets Lord of the Rings. Where the Star Wars part is definitely the B-movie feel. And I dont really like Warwick Davis' acting. So I dont have high expectations going in.

It’s probably a good idea to keep expectations low, especially if you aren’t blindly nostalgic to the original film like I am. ☺️

The things I don’t really like about this show are getting worse, probably because of the longer time spend the more certain aspects will grate on me, but man…the anachronistic way of speaking has gone from mildly annoying to eye roll worthy. I don’t know why I can’t get used to it. Maybe because it’s not universal. Some characters seem to try while others are full blown modern but it is really ruining scenes for me at this point.
There’s also not a ton to grab onto as really interesting. 4 episodes in and I still only really care about 2 characters. Same ones I mentioned above.
The haunted castle was a cool idea but I was hoping for more creep and less camp.

I'm hoping that some actual adventure and interesting characters get added soon.

Is this going to be required viewing for Kang Dynasty?

Is this going to be required viewing for Kang Dynasty? This being an alternate timeline Willow actually helps a lot. The spellcasting does actually resemble Dr. Stranges. Wait a minute...

It's the talking brain from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Right?? No, he was a Klingon in Star Trek the original series and he also appeared in DS9

It’s a knock off version of a Kingo. Yes, we have those here in Australia. You see, when a kangaroo and a dingo love each other very very much...this is the result:

Episode 6 was probably the best one so far. Watched this one yesterday...it's fine...its just becoming harder for me to put the differences between the show and the movie behind me. I want to be invested in the show but it's SO different from the movie that I just find myself eye rolling half the time. Like these trolls...they're funny. I actually enjoy the juxtaposition between what you'd expect them to be like and what they actually are like. That's funny to me. But they're a complete 180 from the trolls in the film, which showed none of this civilized witty banter that the trolls in the tv series show. Maybe it was mentioned that these are different or somehow evolved tremendously in the 16 or so years since the film...i dont recall. But it's just all these little things and a few big things that keep making me not want to keep watching. Much to my own disappointment. But...I will finish this season.

The first season is over and it was just...ok. It could have easily been a CW show. Nowhere near as good in any way as the movie. Also, the set-up for season 2 was ham fisted and nonsensical. I give the show a few points for scenery and for using a remix of a Springsteen song in the finale.

I feel like I’ve laid out most of the reasons I disliked the show earlier in this thread so here’s a few things I did enjoy…the use of modern music, a lot of the visuals were solid, the Crone with the exception of the ‘bitch’ line felt properly menacing and a dire foe for the heroes. It seems like they want to have 3 seasons of this, based on the books at the end. I don’t know if I’m in for 2 more seasons.

The show aired 2 months ago and it might have been 2 years for as much as I can remember now. Lol. That’s probably not a good sign.
