Whilst the DC Films brand is looking for its own Kevin Feige, “The Batman” filmmaker Matt Reeves is reportedly quietly setting up his own position as something of a Batman czar at the studio.
As we know, Reeves developing a sequel to this year’s “The Batman” which grossed $770.8 million worldwide, and will begin filming a TV series spin-off focusing on Colin Farrell’s “The Penguin” next year.
However, THR reports that Reeves is plotting far more than that. He is reportedly meeting with writers and directors at present to build out both movies and series that will focus on members of Batman rogue’s gallery – undoubtedly the most well-known line-up of villains in all of comics.
Characters ranging from The Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg among others are all said to be in the very early stages of gestation. What will move forward is not clear, but the success of “Joker” has shown there’s a potential audience there for comic book films based on individual villains.
Previously Reeves signed a major overall deal with Warner Bros. to create and oversee a bunch of projects, including his desire to create a ‘Batverse’ of which “The Batman” was the first step.
