This is gonna be hard. As a Nintendo kid, my video game history goes back decades and includes a vast array of different entries. But I’ll try.
Red Dead Redemption 2…I am in love with the western time period, so there’s a check there. This story is filled with amazing character development and some genuinely sad and emotional moments. The gameplay is smooth, graphics amazing, and content so vast. Once you get through some entry checkpoints, if you want to spend all your time in a hunting or fishing simulator, you could. If you want to just rob stores and murder townsfolk, you could. About the only thing you can’t do is go to Blackwater or kills those annoying street kids in St. Dennis. Overall this game had so much going for it that it kept me busy for years.
GTAV…Speaking of years…so the game itself, storyline and characters and plot…was fun enough. Interesting characters, chaotic moments, multiple ending options depending on what you choose to do. All very cool. But the online mode was a legitimate game changer. I actually remember when I started getting bored with heists and thought, what else could I do? I bought a mountain bike in game and rode the mountain trails. When that got boring, I decked out a low rider and went to some car shows. When that got boring, I played some versus game where you had to snipe drivers from moving vehicles before they crash into you. When that got boring, I bought a tank. The level on content here that kept me entertained was ridiculous.
Overwatch…If only because I spent a solid 5 years or so playing this game. Usually casually, but at times very competitively, and it took that many years and their content stream drying up for me to actually get bored with it. The big appeal for me was in the characters and roles. It’s a 6v6 competition where you are usually an attacker or a defender and you build your team with characters that have specific abilities and roles within the group. Some are offensive, some are defensive, some are healers, but they all need to synergize and the different character combos often provide unique experiences. Learning how to play each character to a decent degree was where the most fun was for me. And if I got bored I’d just put people to sleep as Ana and dance over their incapacitated body. So much fun.
Super Mario Bros 3…Gotta shout out the original time waster here. The 3rd more than the other og Nintendo titles because the worlds were so different. It was always fun getting to the giant world or the ice world…screw the water world tho cuz of that Big Bertha fish that was always ready to eat you. I have no idea how much time me and my cousin spent playing this game as kids but It feels like a lot. The different items you can pick up were always a blast too and I wish stuff like the tinooki suit were available early in the game. No Mario before or since captivated my attention as much as this one.
Fortnite….You know…for me this was my first exposure to a battle Royale game mode. So, the excitement and interest I had when first playing this game back in 2017 was so unique at the time that it was like a fix I couldn’t get anywhere else. Looking back too, the cartoonish style just lends itself to a bit more fun than the realistic ones of other battle Royale games. But being in a shooter and tactically calling out landmarks on a map where the enemies are taking cover and using far more strategy than I ever had in a cod multiplayer at that time…it was really fun and an experience I look back on fondly. Speed building ruined the game for me, so I fell out of it for a few years but have recently entered the scene again since they have a zero build mode and I’ll tell ya, I’m having loads of fun with this game again.
I know I chose a lot of recent ones…but I find it hard to compare stuff like Galaga or Pitfall to something with as evolved a storyline as RDR2. The old stuff just doesn’t hold up as an experience. But I still had a place in my history for the more classic arcade games.

eeeeeesh, alright I’m going to quick fire this as much as I can. And will limit it to one game in a series if I like a lot of them. FYI - These are mostly based on the obsessive amounts of time spent of them and pure enjoyment factor rather than programming merit etc - Final Fantasy 8 (college me) - Watch Dogs (adult me) - Super Mario Bros 3 (middle school me) - Ocarina of Time (high school me) - Walkabout Mini Golf (current obsession)

Yeah I do wana play the Zelda and Halo games at one point too. Although Ive already bought too much lol. It'll keep me entertained for a while. Also for the former I would have to buy another console which sucks. I think I would only really get Zelda and Mario on the Switch. Nevertheless the Switch is quite an accomplishment (hybrid console of course) and for that price

Did you ever play their last Nintendo game, Star Fox Adventures? I did not. Good? Eh... Only if you like the watered-down, baby version of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

*Looking at the selection of choices* We are such a bunch of freaking Gen-Xers and Millennials. I included 4 that came out in the past decade...but that's mostly because I still play video games relatively often. Not because Im a kid. Kids always kill me.
