Where are all those people who said this movie would under-perform? How can it under-perform when they can cook the books domestically and internationally? Hollywood accounting literally means lying about expenses and profits. They police themselves.
When they said Black Panther was really popular--the theater around the block from me played it for 3 months and I saw no lineups ever. At least in the days when Terminator or something came out, there was some public enthusiasm in that you heard catch phrases.
Is Sam Worthington as popular as Charlton Heston was after Ben-Hur?
It doesn't look like it.
Movies underperform all the time. Are you saying that this movie didn't really bring in over $2 billion at the worldwide box office?

Movies underperform all the time. Are you saying that this movie didn't really bring in over $2 billion at the worldwide box office? There's a lot of politics in Hollywood and they do lie. It is a fully subsidized entity---and some films have much more political message importance than others. If they admit they routinely lie about expenses--then why wouldn't they lie about profits?
Think about it.
Weinstein was never worried that his sexual antics would cause any economic problems did he? Obviously they have the money stuff covered.
Disney hired a convicted child molester to direct a family film (Powder)--and they were never worried about economics.
50 years ago no one gave a fuck about box office. Now, it's like that is all that matters. The fact that Worthington is a non-star in the allegedly biggest movie of all time-doesn't seem to matter. Charlton Heston became a big star --how come no one cares about Worthington? lol

You didn't answer my question, nor did you even really touch on the topic. My comment was in regard to box office numbers, not politics, not sexual harassment, and not star power.

I am saying they are corrupt and routinely lie based on factual observation. It's not a merit and populism-guided enterprise and does not even follow traditional business acumen either. So, I don't trust the numbers reported at all. They obviously don't care about the profits real or imagined since they planned the sequels well in advance. It doesn't matter to them!
In summary, if I was asked to make a money bet based on their reported totals I would definitely say no-I do not trust the accuracy of their claims. No way Jose.

Not a surprise, but it won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

During a press event for the Avatar: The Way of Water digital release, Screen Rant attended a Q&A with producer Jon Landau. He revealed that while filming Avatar: The Way of Water, they also shot Avatar 3 and the first act of Avatar 4. Landau also explained why they needed to film these movies simultaneously. Jon Landau: We were not just filming Avatar 2, we were actually filming and capturing for 2, 3 and the first act of movie 4.
Truth be told, there’s a time cut after the end of the first act [of Avatar 4], and we needed to get all the kids before they got older.screenrant.com/avatar-3-filmed-avatar-4-already-begun/

While I was watching, I really thought about the tech they're using. Earth has some crazy robotics. I forgot since the first Avatar came out in 1995 but just the tech they're using makes me wonder what life is like back on Earth.
Was pleased not only to see Jermaine Clement show up, but as a conscientious objector too.
I did not care at all for a decade straight about the Avatar sequels but now I feel like I could take another one. Hopefully it will come before 2030.

The movie randomly switches to 48 or maybe 60 frames per second at some moments. It took me out of it every now and then. That could explain my friend's reaction too. Like something almost imperceptible but having an effect nonetheless.

- The pro environment, pro indigenous, anti Earth human message is too heavy handed.
- Who is sponsoring Miles Quaritch's trip back to Pandora? His whole purpose is to kill Jake Sully? Someone is paying to ship Quaritch and his men back to Pandora just so he could settle a personal score? He has the power to just take over everything, destroy expensive equipment, and kill people?
- Movie is too long. Many boring slow spots. Could have been told in two hours. Three hours is too long.
- Movie is over acted. Especially the part of Neyteri. When she is not screaming and crying like an emotional basket case, she's being a racist and hypocrite. She loves, married and had children with Jake --- who's an Earth human. But she doesn't like Spider because --- he's an Earth human. She even threatens to kill him towards the end of the movie.
- In the last movie the Navi kicked out the Earth humans. Now they are not only back, they have built stations and rail lines? And the Navi just let them share their planet? And destroy their wildlife? (I'm beginning to see how and why the American Indians lost the Americas to the Europeans. Inferior technology, no organization, and terrible long term strategy.)
Rating is for the special effects. But like a lot of movies, the writing is bad. 5/10

The first Avatar was an amazing new experience. But this second one is 12 years later. We've seen it all before.
Flying around is more exciting than swimming around. And after the first one, everybody knew how biased it was. And this one is even worse.
Last but not least, the writing was better in the first one, than this second one.
Action movies with amazing special effects make money. Especially if they are family films. But unlike the first Avatar, this one is not special. Just another special effects fantasy with a liberal premise and message.

Hit by the writers strike. That's to be expected, but it's still a bit of a bummer. Avatar 3 was just pushed back a year to 2025 last month - at this rate, it will be another decade-plus before we see the third installment.

Finally saw 'The Way of Water' and enjoyed it. Though there's really no reason for it to be 3 hours long.
