Phantom Pain is great. It's also unfortunate that it's the last good Metal Gear Solid game we will ever get again.
Unless Kojima is reunited with the franchise.
Make sure you avoid Metal Gear Survive. It's a terrible crash grab attempt by Konami and easily the worst "Metal Gear" game.
As for Far Cry, the last one I played was 5, which I didn't mind.

I’ve actually never played a Metal Gear Solid or Far Cry game. Lol Some gamer I turned out to be.

I've only played Far Cry 3, 5, and 6. I meant to try the other games in the franchise, but three is so strong that I never really left it. I started 6, and it looks much better than the others, but ultimately I'd slowly drift back to a replay of 3.
I am not a big Metal Gear head, but I have played a few games in the catalog: Revengeance, Ground Zeroes, and The Phantom Pain. The Phantom Pain deserves all of the hype it gets, but it didn't make an MG convert out of me. It's unfortunate that hardcore fans aren't getting more games in the series.

Never played Far Cry. Not interested.
As for Metal Gear. Phantom Pain is a good game, but if you've not played Metal Gear before, I wouldn't make it my first. What happened in previous games always matters a lot in the current Metal Gear entry. I'd recommend diving into some of the previous games first by any means available to you if you've gonna play Phantom Pain.
