So what, two or three years before the entire DCEU gets rebooted?

In Zaslav I trust. Making all the right moves

In Zaslav I trust. Making all the right moves Is he? Some of his actions would appear to conflict with his talking points. He intends to keep performant franchises like Aquaman, Joker, and the (The) Batman running. All three are in various stages of development for a sophomore effort. I'm not even considering Wonder Woman at this point, but trilogies for each of those films is at least a five-year commitment. He's also developing a ten-year plan for DC. Are those 'legacy' franchises a part of this plan? Or will he let them run their course before launching a rebooted DC shared universe? Will it even be a shared universe, or will he be content to let each superhero reside in their own world? Either strategy could work. 10 years is too far out, in my opinion, for planning a shared universe; it should be five. After the first five years, you do a look back and course correct. If year one leads to a story that reaches its climax in year 10, it requires talent to be available and interested for that long, and it assumes that the first nine years were well received in the first place. I think he should focus on rebuilding trust in the brand again. Marvel built a fandom first and then a franchise. He needs to consolidate all activities related to DC under a single umbrella. Animation, video games, publishing, merchandising, movies, streaming, and licensing can't operate autonomously anymore. And DC desperately needs its own movie studio. One ring to rule them all…

They haven't seemed like they've had even a 1-year plan thus far, how exactly do they imagine they'll be able to make a 10-year plan and stick to it?

The thing is, I might've actually started liking DC a bit more if I'd actually gotten to *see* Supergirl or a Batgirl film I was interested in...but they didn't even give me the chance to. Now it seems it's just going to be more of a sausage fest with DC characters/actors that haven't won me over so far. Not really interested in that. I was willing to give DC the benefit of the doubt when others had already condemned them, but their actions lately have been a real turn-off.

Good. And as the new leader of DC Films I vow to cancel everything they’ve got coming up, completely recast, and have a team of professional filmmakers and comic historians collaborate on a 5-10 year vision of 2-3 projects per year. I am starting over to make it clear that this is new and to not leave lingering threads of unconnected distractions lingering about.

In the immortal words of Winston Wolf “Let’s not start sucking each other’s d-cks just yet.”
In theory it’s a good thing. But we really need to know more about what they mean here. They’ve still got loads of films set to come out…Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash…are these films officially pointless to any type of continuity? Will they be self contained? I like that the leadership has changed because clearly it wasn’t being optimized beforehand but I’d like to see a road map of sorts before I start getting excited.

He's still a new CEO of a new company No, I'm not objecting. In fact, I think he's on the right track for the most part. I'm cautiously optimistic, as they say. I wish WB's leadership could grasp the concept of showing and not telling. They spent the better part of the last decade "telling" us what they would do, and barely half of those projects materialized. Only half of the ones that did get made were good. I think Zaslov needs to be more specific and transparent in his planning. Right now, it looks like he's destroying things mainly to cut costs and not necessarily to build back better.

I don't think people dislike or like the plan at this point because it's really just talking points. DC is very good at delivering talking points. We can all certainly get excited over change, and Zaslov is moving faster than any of his predecessors. The Discovery boys practice the deepest corporate warcraft. They'll turn HBO into an unscripted, reality-TV wasteland to save a buck. If they funnel what they save into the DC machine… well then… we'll have a real contest on our hands between the big two.

HBO will still be there, they are just merging Max with archives so to speak heeheehee to reduce the redundancies with HBO. No point in having all that extra staff especially now that they are combining both HBO and discovery into one streaming platform

Meanwhile, there are so *few* female-led comic book movies made, and just because some of those don't do great (ignoring the fact that there are those out there who are against them specifically for being female-led comic book films and do everything they can to sabotage them), suddenly the thought process is, "Well, might as well give up on ANY female-led comic book movies since these last couple weren't so great." - yet they'd never apply that same logic to all the mediocre or just plain bad male-led comic book movies that've been made. They're given chance after chance after chance. Total double stand. It'd take at least another 10 or more female-led comic book movies being released before they were even *close* to having the same number as male-led comic book movies that exist.

No point in having all that extra staff especially now that they are combining both HBO and discovery into one streaming platform Not to be ageist, but Alan Horn is as old as the first horn that was ever produced. He's risking his legacy with all these retirement fake-outs. HBO isn't going anywhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if they cut back on scripted programming for it. Discovery has made solid returns on reality TV and low-cost documentaries that are relatively cheap to produce. I can't see them not trying to apply that discipline to HBO. Think more Real Time with Bill Mahr and less Mare of Easttown. Nothing suggests that Zaslov values the HBO brand simply for the prestige it brings to WarnerMedia. This is evidenced by the new streaming service being rumored to be WarnerMedia+ or something to that effect. That's a massive paradigm shift in terms of branding. Cable subscribers know HBO by name. Who's going to look for it under Discovery+ or whatever? From the LA Times: The combined service will be as expensive AF, easily the most costly on the market after year two (when honeymoon pricing abruptly ends). I don't see an overlap between the two audiences. HBO Max, by all indications, has been an abysmal failure in the streaming wars. They've spent billions on new content but failed to come close to Netflix or Disney+ in terms of subscriber growth. They even spent a year giving away their movies, and they still couldn't move the needle. I don't think Zaslov sees HBO as a jewel in the crown; he just wants to ensure he owns all of the content and make sure it's of the highest quality possible. Discovery is the more performant brand in their portfolio, and I suspect HBO will take a back seat to it. To put it bluntly, the mastermind behind shows like Shark Week, Moonshiners, Naked and Afraid XL, and Battlebots is now spearheading brands like DC and HBO. He's moving fast and using a well-established playbook to restructure and combine - non of his ideas are new or innovative. I'm cautiously optimistic because this could easily be a case of meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Apparently that new one will save billions in cost ie WarnerMedia+ or whatever it may be called. Just another reason to get rid of Max but HBO will still be there. It was managed poorly to begin with. HBO Max, HBO, HBO Now and was there a fourth one? Maybe re Horn but I suspect he doesnt seem to care about legacy but more about the next challenge/workaholic

On Marvel's end, only Spider-Man and other X-Men are more well known than the X-Women, and Black Widow was probably about as well-known as Ironman before the films made him into a legend. Sue Storm, Black Cat, and Scarlet Witch are some of the most well-known Marvel characters, period. Silver Sable is also a very popular character with a strong following, as are the Wasp, She-Hulk, and many of the others. And on DC's ends, you have Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Hawkgirl, Starfire, Raven, Zatanna, Black Canary, Batgirl, Supergirl, and a bunch that are more well-known than most of the members of the Suicide Squad, Aquaman prior to his movie, Cyborg, Shazam before his movie, and are definitely more popular than Blue Beetle and any number of the dudes who are getting movies. The ladies of the comic book world are NOT second class characters compared to the guys anymore, and haven't been for a long time. The fact so many films are only headed by the dudes is a clear bias.

Not saying there arent popular female characters but those are A-Game Hawkgirl, Zatanna, Raven and Starfire? Really?...
