I feel bad for the cast and crew, especially Leslie Grace. The cancelation was a slap in their face. Here's hoping she'll find another project that will make it up for her. Maybe Marvel could give her something? Apparently WB has already made deals with Grace and those directors for future projects

He's only cancelled 1 female led superhero movie and the reasons for that had nothing to do with gender. Let's not throw the sexism card at the drop of a hat. Is there any evidence it's got nothing to do with gender? Because so far it looks like only the female-led movies from DC are the ones they're not moving forward (there was also a report of a planned Supergirl movie being unlikely to move forward). It's not 'throwing the sexism card' when the evidence is right there. Once a female-led movie from DC under the new regime is actually released in theatres - then I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And there's always those who defend those accused of sexism 'at the drop of a hat' too. It happens on both sides. 1. It is impossible to prove a negative. That is why burden of proof is on the accuser. 2. Here's what we know. Weeks ago Zaslav said that all DC movies going forward would be big theatrical releases and quality would be paramount. "Batgirl" was designed to be a low budget straight to streaming movie and was received poorly by test audiences. Weeks ago Zaslav said that Superman Batman and Wonder Woman would be at the center of the new plan for the DCEU. "Batgirl" was written to put "old" Batman in a secondary "man in the chair" position and replace him with Batgirl as the primary character. Obviously, that doesn't fit the vision that Zaslav has expressed. They never even officially announced a Supergirl movie much less canceled one, it was all rumors and speculation. Zaslav has already canceled multiple projects including some that were not female lead superhero movies. 3. Releasing a poor quality movie that doesn't fit the new leaderships vision would have caused far more damage to the brand than any possible box office receipts could make up for.

Behind-the-scenes footage of a chase scene being filmed. It showed Leslie Grace riding a motorcycle while Firefly (Brendan Fraser) is on top of a fire truck.

I guess there's no diversity with Jason Momoa, The Rock or Xolo Maridueña.. Also isnt antitrust more to do with monopolies? I would say it's weird that a politician is getting involved here but he's clearly going for an angle-perhaps some younger voters? This is just too obvious I wont even state it lol

Some more details:
Much has been said about Batgirl's shocking cancellation since Warner Bros. Discovery made the unprecedented decision to scrap the $90 million movie. Now, though, we have some intriguing new details from a recent Twitter Spaces conversation between Fandango's Erik Davis and The Wrap's resident superhero scooper Umberto Gonzalez.
The latter spoke with someone who has seen an early cut of the DC Comics movie and shed some light on what fans could have expected to see from Michael Keaton's Batman.
"I asked how Keaton is in it at least, and I was told he was good. He's playing Bruce Wayne/Batman age-appropriate, he's got white hair when he's Bruce Wayne," Gonzalez confirmed. "And the kicker here is that his Batman is ‘retired.’ But he obviously pops in to help and advise Barbara Gordon."
"He's not really that much in it, but he has a presence when he's in it, and it's sort of a pivotal cameo when he pops in and out."
This lines up with what we've heard about Keaton's Batman lending Barbara a helping hand as she attempts to become a hero in Gotham City, though Keaton's future beyond The Flash now looks uncertain. We know he'll still be a big part of that movie, but it's believed he's already been replaced by Ben Affleck in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
As for the quality of Batgirl (which has been a major talking point in recent weeks), Gonzalez made a very telling comparison.
"It plays like a very expensive CW pilot. It's not really a strong film, the tone is just very CW, lacking in depth, lighter, and more comic book-like, which is odd because Michael Keaton’s in it. It's basically an hour, 40-minute CW pilot. With a pretty good action set piece at the end from what I'm told. And again, not the worst superhero film I've ever seen."
Gonzalez would go on to explain that Batgirl was shot for television, hence why it didn't feel cinematic. Comparisons to a CW pilot may seem harsh, but as many fans pointed out when that first look photo was revealed, the hero's costume would not have looked out of place alongside characters like The Flash and Batwoman in the Arrowverse.
The chances of us seeing Batgirl are somewhere between slim and none, meaning we'll never get to judge the movie for ourselves. It doesn't sound like we've missed much, but it's hard to believe it couldn't have been something special with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah at the helm based on their work in Ms. Marvel and Bad Boys for Life.

Speaking with Variety while doing press for his new movie The Whale, Brendan Fraser touched on the fate of Batgirl at HBO Max: "It's disappointing. The fans really wanted to see this film made. I was there. Leslie Grace is a dynamo... She just goes for it. She looks great in the outfit. The movie itself was shot and conceived for a smaller screen, in this age it would have come out of now between streaming service vs. theatrical release. It wound up being the canary in the coal mine. So, what did we learn from this? Work with trusted filmmakers. Like Darren."

Scott Rogers discusses his work as a stunt coordinator on Batgirl. He explains that he was drawn to Batgirl because of how it was similar to the John Wick movies. Rogers also shares new details about a huge action sequence involving flamethrowers, a firetruck, and motorcycles. Check out what Rogers said below: Scott Rogers: Yeah, the thing that drew me to that movie in the first place was that there's no superheroes. It's a superhero movie with nobody with superpowers, so it was very grounded. It fit the John Wick world, which is the world that I really like, which is real grounded, real live, not CG stunts.
The bad guy, Brendan Fraser's character, was Firefly. We had these amazing flamethrowers, and we did this really great fight with flamethrowers. And then we had this huge sequence on a firetruck with motorcycles, and 40 foot flamethrowers, and girls doing wheelie with the flames. It was just like doing John Wick. "Okay, we're going to do what? 40 foot flamethrowers? Yes. Okay, how are we going to do that?" It was great.
It's unfortunate, but the beauty is I've learned a bunch and now I can go steal all of those stunts and go put them in another movie. screenrant.com/batgirl-stunt-coordinator-canceled-film-details/

New BTS footage shared by Leslie Grace.
This article is weird. It’s like it’s trying to sell that this was an awesome film by repeatedly saying “audiences are disappointed with the cancellation” and “they’re continuing to petition for its release”. And meanwhile still talk about its troubled production. And the mere fact that it was cancelled after production says everything. It’s obviously garbage. So genuine fan interest can’t be a reason to petition this. The only reason to be petitioning this is morbid curiosity.

I think there is a semblance of loss due to Brendan Frazier, who has become beloved by the public recently due his personal struggles, and Michael Keaton, who I think was suppose to make an appearance as Batman. But ultimately the studio deemed the film a loss already and given that they’ll put about any piece of crap out in theaters, I think that’s a very telling sign that this happened to be a bridge too far.

Just how bad must this movie have been to be deemed 'unreleasable' if The Flash was considered 'releasable'?
