They are killing their own platform this way It's far worse than actual television ads ever were. I've drastically cut down my time on YouTube now that I don't have a premium subscription.

And another thing… the ads are becoming increasingly harder to skip. Lots of misfires on the skip button on a tablet, leaving you tapping/clicking multiple times to end the agony.
If you've got a Mac and you're savvy on the command line, you can download youtube videos and watch them on your local machine completely ad-free.

It has me actually clicking off of videos before they even start because there’s 2 to 3 ads right out of the gate. It really makes me reconsider how much I wanted to watch the vid in the first place.

THIS^ I'm much less likely to sweat out the ads to hear someone's obnoxiously hot take on something trivial --- like a character's costume design.

Yes dammit. It's practically a dystopia of advertising. Thumbnails for other videos also pop up at the and block parts of the video. Not like, block block or restrict, they just pop up in a way that covers things.
I almost lost it when an advertisement interrupted a song I was listening too. I get that it was a 10 minute song, but until then I thought it was impossible. It reminds me of that episode of Futurama where Fry sees the underpants ad in his dreams.

Watching on computer is such a pain but I will check and see if it happens as much when I watch on computer.

It drives me nuts when it keeps cutting off in the middle of a video I am watching I will literally parkour across the room to skip an ad even if there's one second left. It's the principle of the thing.

I received an offer for a three-month trial of YouTube Premium. After the trial, I resolved to end the subscription because $9.99 a month was out of the question for me. When I tried to leave, they offered it to me for another three months for $2.99 per month. I took advantage of that offer, but that ended last month, and I'm back in ad-land again. The moral of the story is to be on the lookout for a good trial; it's worth it. Just remember to cancel before it ends.

A lot of times I use it to stream tv shows that people uploaded for free on my roku device. Those I don't get the ads on. But watching the random clips on my phone or computer is where it gets annoying with the constant interruptions. I will consider the trial though.

I was desperate to watch the 1985 Twilight Zone series, and I wasn't about to pay the ridiculous price they wanted for the DVDs. The ads were killing me. When the free trial ended, I was in Asia. I think there might have been a glitch where they offered me a lower rate to renew because I was in another country. If that's the case, this hack could be replicated with a VPN and a little elbow grease. Just thinking out loud…

I do try to avoid buying dvd's these days in general. I have a whole cabinet filled with dvd sets collecting dust. Plus with all the streaming stations I like to just wait till it comes on one of the ones I subscribe to. Or like in this case, youtube for free.

I like the commercials. They inform me of snazzy new products and fast food menu items that I would otherwise be completely ignorant of. And how else would I know which car insurance to buy?

I know its kind of beating a dead horse at this point but I just have to rant for a second...I just sat thru 2 ads before the video I tried to watch came on and then the guy talks for 5 seconds before pitching Manscape, his sponsor. What the f-ck is this? First 2 ads then your sponsor? I don't know how much creators can control this type of stuff but this is a ridiculous amount of overkill. If a video is sponsored it shouldn't have ads.
I immediately clicked off once he started the manscape shpiel and I kind of want to go back and leave a comment saying as much just so these people know. Sitting through 2 ads and a sponsored section of the video is just a little too much of a waste of my time.

Apparently, there are free ad blockers for PC and Mac you can use to remove the pre and post-roll ads (mid-roll is seemingly impossible to block). I followed a tutorial on how to get more favorable pricing on their premium ad-free experience. It was a bit of a headache to go through, but now I'm getting ad-free YouTube for $2 a month - worth it.
