Woulve preferred Bucky to be Captain America myself. His redemption story wouldve been so good imo. Layers of mystery too

The direction they went with Bucky pretty much made it that he wouldn't be fit for the title of Captain America. The dude went on and said that he was tired of fighting. The guy was a brainwashed assassin that finally got some resemblance of a life back.

The problem for any Captain Americas is they can never live up to the memory of Steve Rogers.

If he was given more time to recover his heroic side Id be all for Bucky. But I think it was a little too soon after brainwashed assassin for him to put a suit on. He was still recovering in Wakanda when Infinity War happened and that was pretty much it. It might’ve been nice had he not been snapped away, to spend the 5 years getting his mind right, so when we see him in Endgame he has overcome his demons and can be the symbol he would need to be to fill Steve’s shoes. But as it stands I was perfectly happy with Sam taking on the mantle.

Steve died and was resurrected a hero. Maybe that was his self-doubt. Even so, Bucky as he is now, wouldn’t want to be Captain America.

The problem for any Captain Americas is they can never live up to the memory of Steve Rogers. Even Zemo conceded that.

It's strange to me because Bucky as Captain America seems more like an ending than a beginning, like a story that ends with passing the mantle. There's more to do with Falcon as Captain America, and I think Bucky has the world-weary 'I'm tired of fighting' thing down to a T.
I like his grey zone reluctant hero bit, and even though there is the idea that time heals all wounds, that man has so much red in his ledger it's not even funny. Black Widow has red in her ledger too, clearly, but hers is mostly abstract. She talks about it. Bucky doesn't talk about it, but we know the red in his ledger is killing world leaders and Tony Stark's parents and that guy's son from the beginning of FATWS. He may not be beyond acceptance, but he feels he's beyond acceptance and he gets that, and that works for him.
It may never come to him, but Bucky needs peace. Becoming Captain America is like the last thing that happens to you in a dream before you wake up smiling. It would be so so so cool to see Bucky as Captain America, but I like the idea of doing that as a What If, and I liked the What If Agent Carter episode already.
An alternate reality or timeline where the Bucky we know becoming Captain America could be cool as shit; I personally just don't know where they'd take it, but that's why I don't write the stuff. Just an innocent consumer.

Worth noting Steve told Bucky if his decision before he made it and Bucky seemed to support it. I don’t think the shield was ever going to be in the cards for MCU Bucky… But it is funny that his story is a great symbol for America. Checkered past, lots of regrets, very flawed, death machine!

Woulve preferred Bucky to be Captain America myself. His redemption story wouldve been so good imo. Layers of mystery too Bucky is my guy. Sam is worthy but Cap is Bucky’s legacy and redemption. I’ll cheer the day he holds that shield as his own.
