Wow, tough break. That's pretty much a rap on his acting career, assuming I understand the illness correctly. His contributions to movies and television will never be forgotten.

It's a testament to his status as a Hollywood action icon that even the rash of DTV garbage he's been doing for what six or seven years still won't put a dent in his filmography being fondly remembered.

The conspiracy theorist in me is working overtime again. I suspect his condition was likely an open secret in the industry. It would explain why he took so much low-rent action schlock that was usually a two-hander with an up-and-coming co-star. Being relegated to a co-star or a supporting role would lessen the burden of delivering most of the film's dialogue. Sometimes it just seemed like the production was only borrowing his name. In one film I saw a while back, he was barely in the movie for five minutes playing a shady covert type who facilitated a prisoner exchange. He got top billing for his work. He likely knew he didn't have much time before his condition became completely untenable, so he packed in as many films as possible before remembering/delivering lines became unrealistic. In any event, well wishes to the family and godspeed to Willis. He certainly made my childhood more entertaining than it would have been without him.

When i heard the news today I immediately thought about how he's been kind of criticized and laughed at for falling off the map and doing a laundry list of low budget feeling direct to video style movies. And now I wonder how long this has been a thing and if he's done that because it either allowed him the freedom to deal with his condition worsening or just to rake in as much money as anyone will hand him knowing that in a few years his career will be over. I started to feel kind of sad and guilty about it. It always comes back to not knowing what other people are going through I think. Also great avatar pic. Just saw you changed it. F-cking diapers!

Yes, it does make you see things differently regarding his late career choices. I heard at one point he was single handedly proping up the town he lived in financially. He likely really needed the money more so than it being about greed (as Stallone opined). Huge "Lalin" fan, I do impersonations of him all the time. Viggo was brave to take on the role.

Cant say I was that big of a fan. I dont think he really liked acting, more of a cash grab. Maybe it's because of this affliction

The Surrogates. Cant think of more I would recommend seeing more of his earlier work. His 80s and 90s films are way more diversified than people realize. He did action movies, science fiction films, romantic comedies, thrillers, crime dramas, and one really bad family movie called North.

The Last Boyscout, Death Becomes Her, The Fifth Element, The Jackal, 12 Monkeys, Last Man Standing...he's worked in a lot of genres with some fairly quirky characters. Hes the best scumbag cop too.

Awww...Ive got a soft spot for Hudson Hawk. But when I was a kid I really liked the vibe of cat burglars in things. Like there was a fighting game on Sega game called Eternal Champions that pit people of different eras in time against each other and one of them was a cat burglar from like the 1920s named Larcen. Loved his style.
