MCU Theory: Nova Was Born at the Hands of Thanos

One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most anticipated heroes may already be in development, and Thanos may have played a big role in his creation.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding at an exponential rate, even without the multiverse being introduced. As a result, fan-favorite but largely unknown characters are getting the spotlight. Now, heroes like She-Hulk and Moon Knight are on their way to becoming household names. But there is also a greater potential for long-anticipated heroes to finally make their debut in the MCU. One example is Richard Rider, aka Nova. But what makes this character even more exciting is the fact that one of the possibilities of his arrival could be in direct response to Thanos' actions in Avengers: Infinity War.
In the original Guardians of the Galaxy, the Nova Corps were nothing more than police officers in space. They had no powers and traveled around in spaceships. So it seemed like an unlikely time for a character like Nova to be introduced. That said, one character that eventually bestows his power to Richard Rider in the comics, Rhomann Dey, has already been introduced, played by John C. Reilly. So even back in 2014, the pieces were in place, and with Xandar being the home of the Power Stone, it became a prime target for Thanos' onslaught.
With the Nova Corps seemingly all but wiped out according to Thor, the peacekeeping force would have to rebuild. But rather than come back in the same manner they were introduced, it would be time to upgrade themselves so that they can be better prepared for large-scale threats like Thanos. This could mean introducing their own super-soldier program with Nova Centurions. In the comics, these characters were bestowed with power that gave them flight, super strength and the ability to fire energy blasts and survive in deep space.
With Earth now home to beings who can stop Thanos where the Nova Corps couldn't and even prevent the birth of a Celestial, it would seem like a viable location to send a Corpsman to find a new Earth recruit. By sending Dey to fetch him, Richard Rider fulfills his comics' origin while rewriting certain aspects to better fit into the MCU. As a young hero, trained by the Nova Corps and mentored by Dey, Rider could serve as Xandar's own Captain America.
An alien super-soldier who has overcome judgment from other species and risen above them to be the best he can be while also serving as a shining example of a newer and stronger Corps would be a great fit for the MCU. His presence also helps take any narrative weight off of the Guardians of the Galaxy, depending on their status at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Through Rider, audiences could see the Marvel cosmic universe through new eyes and better explore the inner workings of the Nova Corps, which is long overdue. But even more exciting is the fact that now, fans will be able to see Rider face off against even deadlier threats to the galaxy because now, it has a new hero who can take them on.
Nova is a beloved Marvel hero who deserves his time to shine in the MCU. However, with Thanos inadvertently setting the stage, his goal of balance not only failed, but it also created stronger heroes who will be able to defeat enemies like the Mad Titan single-handedly. Furthermore, it gives longtime characters like Rhomann Dey a chance to be fleshed out as a mentor and ally to Rider while setting the stage for even bigger space-based stories in the future.
