Both could be good.

I was hoping for a John Wick 4 to come first instead, though a spin-off doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
Not a fan of the upcoming Pirates reboot at all though.

If they do indeed manage to get Karen Gillan for the PotC reboot, then I'll most likely check it out.

Karen Gillan is a solid choice for that part. But it would be jarring considering how much Johnny Depp was tied to the franchise’s initial success. But suppose they go through with it, and it comes out, do people care by that point? The last movie barely broke even as I understand. It may just be easier to retire the series.

Oh, I definitely agree it'd be better to just retire the series. The fifth film might not have been 'great', but I thought it was at least better than films 3 & 4, so I wish they'd stopped with #5. However, they're clearly wanting to keep it going, so starting anew with Karen Gillan would be the 'best' option (they're clearly not going to get Johnny Depp back, and recasting the role would be out of the question). I do think people's interest in the franchise has dwindled considerably, but Karen Gillan's getting more attention with her roles in the MCU and new Jumanji films, so that might grab some people's attention. Reboots can be risky, but occasionally they work out alright. I'm going to wait and see.

However, if Disney serious about it being a reboot, don't have any of that mystery box shit from the Disney Star Wars trilogy (I like most of that series but that shit got annoying fast). Don't have this bit where Gillan gets Jack Sparrow's compass and someone is like "it may come in handy some day". Oh fuck me, they're gonna do it.

Yeah, they would do well to not have an over-reliance on connections/references to the previous films. Instead they should come up with new/fresh ideas. So long as I never have to hear about damn sea turtles ever again, I'll be happy (they ran that joke, among others, into the ground).

They are gonna reboot everything. Milk it until the milk is gone. They need Disney+ content. So it will never ever stop.

An anthology should have been what they went with for Pirates to begin with, instead of just relying on Johnny Depp.

It seems surreal they would reboot Pirates. Wasn't the last one just a few years ago?
Regardless I do adore Karen Gillan. One of my fave Doctor Who companions. Future ex-wife material for me.

Also cant forget Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston/David Tennant Quite a few times across both the remainder of the 11th's tenor and the 12th's. They finally showed the memory she spoke of in her inaugural episode "Silent in the Library/Forest of the Dead" where The Doctor took her out on a date to the singing towers with a suit and a new haircut, ending the night by giving her his Sonic Screwdriver. This also happens to be the last 12th Doctor Christmas Special.

Indeed. And that one if I remember pretty much wrapped up a lot of plot threads. Even stuff we didn’t care about like where Jack Sparrow got his hat.

I always like the lore/myth what have you about mermaids. One of the films was about mermaids and all I could think was "cool!".
It's already kind of a feat to make pirates cool again in this day and age. If I could psychically project any message to these guys it would be "don't push your luck!".
