In a tweet posted this morning, MacFarlane unleased an early special made trailer for the new run with the promise of “New home. New missions. New Horizons.”
The new home refers to the show moving from FOX to Hulu for the new season run which began filming in October 2019 but, due to multiple stops and starts due to the pandemic, didn’t actually finish filming until last month.
Instead of thirteen episodes of around 40-43 minutes each, the new season will clock in at eleven episodes of around 52-58 minutes each. Comedian Norm Macdonald completed his voiceover work as the gelatinous Lt. Yaphit before his passing earlier this month.

I guess it's not for everybody but I love it. Funny, exciting, and has good special effects and pretty good writing.

I couldn't remember the other day if I'd seen Season 2 of The Orville or only Season 1 and I was thinking to myself... In my defense, it'd seemed like a LONG time since I last saw the show on TV, and I couldn't even recall if the channel which aired the show here ran both seasons together or if there was a break in between them. I think it may have aired one soon after the other and maybe I thought that was all the first season (which would explain why I thought it was taking forever to get to Season 2). Then I was in the DVD store and saw Season 2 available and wondered if they'd aired it on TV here and I'd somehow missed it. Only after checking the IMDB page for the show and its list of episodes did I recognise from the episode summaries that the last episode I saw was indeed the Season 2 final. So, it would appear that (like everyone else) I'm waiting to see Season 3.

A new report at Deadline indicates there are no current plans for a fourth season and the cast of the series was released from their contracts back in August after filming as their most recent options had expired.
MacFarlane is also busy focusing on development under the mega overall deal he has at NBCUniversal including Peacock’s “Ted” TV series which Seth MacFarlane will co-showrun and lend his voice to. Scott Grimes, a regular on “The Orville,” has also scored a regular role on “Ted” suggesting the cast is already moving on.
“The Orville: New Horizons” premieres on Hulu on June 2nd.

The good news is they're actually showing the new season on TV here where I am. The bad news is...I can't say I'm as into this season as you (but at least I'm still watching it).

I like the show and most of its characters (even Charly, who most seem to hate), but I could do without so much focus on Claire's kids (give their screentime to some of the show's actual 'regulars' instead) and the Claire/Isaac relationship stuff. I think I may finally be starting to adjust to the tonal shift between the first two seasons of this show and the new third season (which is more or less like a 'reinvention' of the series since it now has 'New Horizons' attached to the title of the show). If I just accept that this is how the show is now, I can move on from the fact that it's quite a bit different to how the first season was. I don't really have that much of a problem with the show wanting to be more 'serious' sci-fi now...I just wish it'd started that way instead of the drastic change between first season and this one.

I honestly don't even notice much of a tonal shift. This week's episode was one of the best of the season so far.

Watched the Season 3 final, 'Future Unknown', last night. If they don't get renewed for another season, then this served as a pretty decent 'series final'. {Spoiler}It was also a nice/welcome surprise to see Halston Sage return as Alara.

“I have sensed a real groundswell of support from within the Hulu branch and the Disney branch. Of course, it’s a business, so the show has to be something that justifies its own existence and, at the end of the day, that’s really going to be what determines a season 4.

But the folks at Hulu and Disney have sure as hell given us the best possible chance of that happening, so it’s really all up to the audience now. I am excited for the Disney + launch, because that’s an entirely new audience that I think is maybe dimly aware of the show but maybe doesn’t really know exactly what it is.

I think that’s been the conundrum of The Orville for a while is that people kind of put it in a box based on the initial perceptions of the show from 2017 and 99% of the time when people sit down to watch it, their expectations are completely upended, and the show speaks for itself in that way, I’m confident that it can do that. The real challenge is just going to be getting eyeballs on it so that people have the chance to discover that for themselves.”

The third, and probably last, season was really well done. It's a shame that COVID restrictions had such a huge adverse effect on the show's schedule. The show is already a cult classic. The only chance for renewal is if a large number of people quickly discover it on Disney+ and like what they see.
The situation almost reminds me of Star Trek the original series which had mediocre ratings and was prematurely cancelled because they put it in the Friday night at 10:00 death slot.
