Say what you will about this project, but the absolute last person in the history of humankind that I would think of to play Gambit is Channing Tatum. I never understood his involvement or why anyone thought it was a good pairing. In the comics, Gambit is a rakish waif, and Tatum is a square-jawed beefcake bro. Admittedly, I wouldn't have been rushing to get my tickets for opening night on this one, but the idea had always been somewhat intriguing. Nailed it!

I’m a Gambit fan but Tatum isn’t a Gambit I’d look forward to. Also as big a fan of his as I am I’m not really excited for a solo movie. A lot of the XMen just don’t work for me alone. It’s the group dynamics and relationships that I’ve always loved about their teams. I’d be more interested in a Cyclops movie than a Gambit one.

It’s the group dynamics and relationships that I’ve always loved about their teams. I’d be more interested in a Cyclops movie than a Gambit one. I've never been much of a fan of the character, although I will admit there are some compelling X-Men stories where he is the main character. Gambit was clearly created for the female gaze. That is more than fair given the sheer volume of female characters in super-tight tactical gear with malfunctioning zippers that nerds girls have had to endure. It just seemed like every time I opened up a book with him in it, I somehow managed to flip directly to the page where he was shirtless and in the shower. See what I mean? Ask a girl about this, and she'll tell you to shut up and suck it. It also doesn't help that he is the subject of seemingly endless erotic fan fiction and adult-oriented fan art. The whole tom cat mystique is a turn off for me. I couldn't agree with you more regarding solo films. I consider the X-Men to be a team, and therefore solo movies have little to no appeal to me. That said if they're made well, and there is an audience for them, they aren't any more or less offensive than a limited series featuring the character. Fox didn't really seem sincere in their efforts to make high-quality solo films featuring X-Men characters. It seemed like they were more interested in strip-mining the IP down to the studs. A Nightcrawler or Kitty Pride movie (which they were planning) would be interesting. Buddy X-Men films with unusual pairing would be more up my alley. An adaptation of Havoc & Wolverine: Meltdown could pique my interest. I don't know that it would work without the cold war settings, though.

Sounds like the Little Rascals meets Romeo and Juliet meets Assassins' Creed. So is that approval? On paper, maybe…? But it sounds like something that could go south on the big screen quite easily.

Lord Death Man, That's fair...but that same sexuality is fairly common in plenty of comics so I never really paid much attention to it. It's not like Gambit was the only X-Men character to walk around the mansion in provocative clothing. We give them Gambit and we get Emma Frost...we give them Wolverine and we get Psylocke...its a give and take really. For me tho i grew up with the show from the early 90s and it seems like everyone who watched that show either loved or hated Gambit...I fell more on the love side. Mostly because he's kind of aloof and had his own style to him. The trench coat always made him look cool to me and I appreciate that his power was useful but not op. I like him less in the comics than I did in the cartoon but I still enjoyed when he'd show up. And yea Id be much more interested in weird team ups or even whoever else would show up in any Xmen solo movie than i would the actual main storyline. Those characters were always more interesting to me together rather than apart...that goes for Wolverine too.

You're right, of course, and you'll get very little argument from me on overtly sexual characters like Psylocke and Frost. My only exposure to Gambit is the comics, and he always felt gimmicky to me in that context. I guess more than anything, I'd like someone to declare that the mutant sexual revolution is over so that everyone can put their clothes back on.

Can you imagine Channing doing a Cajun accent? LOL! Totally, actually. I'm not sure if it's just the Cajun accent or if calling every woman "Cher" is something that seems like it flows naturally from him. I think he has a soft-spoken tone that he can make sound Cajun with a bit of inflection. I feel like I've heard it before but I can't remember from what movie.
I've never been sure about Channing Tatum being my first choice for Gambit. It's not an uninteresting choice, but this movie's been in the rumor mill for so long that I don't believe for a second it's really happening until I see a trailer. At this point, I'd rather just know whether a film is happening than see it when it happens. I'm torn on Tatum because he doesn't strike as very tall. His bio says he's 6 feet, so I guess he is still, but he fills out to the point where he looks to scale. I guess he's broad enough that his height doesn't stand out. If I didn't read now that he's 6'0, I'd have never guessed, and I've seen a bunch of his movies.
I guess that's a way of saying he doesn't look like Gambit to me, but the magic of movies...

He doesn't fit the bill in my book, but I've never felt protective of the characters' integrity, so Kermit the Frog could play him as far as I'm concerned. I don't think Tatum has much in common with the comic book version of the character, but I conceded that I am not familiar with the character in other media. They both sure do manage to get their shirts off with some frequency, though. A young Matthew McConaughey (another shirtless wonder) would have been a better match, in my opinion.

Like 1995-7 "Contact" "A Time to Kill" Matthew McConaughey would have been perfect. That's a great choice. He's really muscular too, but he's also lean, whereas Tatum is buff. In my head, Gambit will show up in the movie with that weird thing on his face that I never understood. Is it a mask? A hat? Does it have something to to with his powers? Does it stop him from kinetically charging his own eyebrows?
Is it a scarf? Is it connected to the fabric on his hand? Is it for absorbing sweat? It makes his face look like a T with a face.

Im thinking its one of those green man suits painted black with a bunch of holes in it strategically around the fingers and face.

I like merv's idea too about it being a modified green suit cause then you could modify it like a background on zoom. Make it white with colored polka dots or put constellations on it like Star Boy from Justice League vs the Fatal Five.

Could Tatum have been the case like ex Daredevil turned Batman star Ben Affleck or Heath Ledger's Joker? He certainly seemed passionate
