Mystery M. Night Shyamalan Film Sets Its Cast linkOh, what fascinating idea is going to be turned into an annoying ego-stroking author tract about how people don't get his brilliance this time? You lost your last bit of good will from me when "Glass" was such a disappointment, you hack!

At least Shyamalan tries to be creative I'll take JJ over Shyamalan any day. I feel that what I said was exactly the right amount of harsh considering what Shyamalan did to "Avatar: The Last Airbender". And then kneecapped his own "Glass" hot off the success of "Split".

Personally, my favourite movie of his is The Village (though I know that quite a few people seemed to not like that one).
I heard The Visit was decent. I have yet to see that one. I haven't seen Split either.

Oh he definitely made mistakes but thats what happens when you take risks. JJ plays it far too safe on the other hand. Well animes (although avatar isnt one, it takes a bit from that style) and games arent really done justice when it comes to hollywood films. So considering that, Shyamalan isnt that bad

Besides, "The Last Airbender" wasn't a risk. The property was popular, and if the film had been any good, it would have been a huge hit. "Glass" also wasn't a risk. It was just two hours of the director whining to his audience about how people don't understand his genius. Give me JJ Abrams playing it safe, any day.

Which is why some failed and some were successful. As for risks, it was more for his other projects

I loved Split. Wasnt to hot on Glass though. That seems to be his problem. Its either hit or miss and the misses are occurring more than the hits.

I have stopped liking Shyamalan altogether after he got my hopes up again after "The Visit" and "Split" just to dash them AGAIN with "Glass", and trust me, there is little that can dissuade me from feeling that way at this point. He had his chance to really wow me with his crossover between "Unbreakable" and "Split" and he failed miserably. As for JJ Abrams: many happy memories with his work. I can't find it in me to have the same distain you have for him.

I like his Star Trek films but from what Ive heard, he didnt really bring anything that new to the Star Trek universe. Would like to see him do something like Super 8 again. His own idea and not some major, established franchise

Glass sucked so I'm skeptical.

Put me down for Shyamalan > Abrams as well.
Shyamalan is absurdly pretentious, especially when saddled with bad material that he usually wrote himself, and suffers from the weird desire to make his God complex text in his movies.
Abrams is relentlessly mediocre.
I don’t like pretentiousness, but I’ll take it over mediocrity any day.

I didn't mind the idea of Glass (or rather the original film with Willis). I wouldn't rewatch it but the idea was kind of goofy interesting and sticks in the mind.
"I'm Mr Glass!"
