A fantastic book on the subject… It separates each civilization into its own chapter so you have the option to only read the ones you are interested in. I recommend it just for the Mayan and Easter Island chapters.

A myth probably begun from something real but comparatively low key. However I really enjoy the fantasy of it and the idea of a lost and possibly technologically advanced city.

What do you make of Atlantis out of curiosity? Realistically? It’s a tall tale. A myth probably begun from something real but comparatively low key. However I really enjoy the fantasy of it and the idea of a lost and possibly technologically advanced city. Yeah who knows really? Can I believe there were other civilizations before us that were almost wiped out and we were the pieces? Sure. The Earth is very old after all

Real life natural disaster in a coastal city could’ve been the inspiration. Just like how Noah’s Arc was likely inspired by the very real threat of flooding. As far as mythical technological supremacy though, that part is all bull.

That’s the one I was trying to think of! It’s not hard to imagine how the stories of that type of catastrophe would be exaggerated and turned to legend over decades and centuries
