I remember loving the trilogy but only saw them for the first time once in 2015, so my memory is fading a bit. Hobbits were alright.

Lord of the Rings isn't a movie. It's a commitment. After 20 years it's still the best trilogy ever made. And it still holds up. It's the consistency between each film. Being made at the same time was a must for this to work. Not surprising. In the books, I think the second and third volumes both began within a half-hour of the previous volume's ending.
