Terry Matalas, showrunner for the third season:
“I didn’t want to make anything that they didn’t want to make… They all have big things to do. We all meet them and find out where they are now. And some of those answers as to what they’re doing now are unexpected. So I wanted them to be happy and have input… They’ve lived with these characters. They go to the conventions. They know the stories that matter to these people.”
“For Gates [McFadden], I wanted to make sure that Crusher really had a very strong story. That was a fascinating – it’s a fascinating character who let her son go off into the universe, who had once had a romantic relationship with Captain Picard. And where are they now?
And sitting with LeVar and saying: ‘Here’s what I think’s going to happen to Geordi.’ And LeVar [Burton] made me cry. There was a moment when I pitched it and he was so emotional and I got emotional. I was like, ‘This is one of those cool moments.’ They had to be happy or else I wouldn’t have felt good… And all of them brought really great ideas to it.”

Here's a comment someone posted about the cancellation of Discovery. It barely scratches the surface of what was wrong with this show.
"Leaves an indelible legacy, alright. Just not a good one.
MCU-level stakes so high that the story is crushed under the weight. Plot twists telegraphed miles off. Face-meltingly awful dialogue. Continuity with the rest of the Trek universe completely out to lunch. Own internal continuity not much better. Nonsensical interior set design (is the USS Discoball a TARDIS??? How does that interior fit into the exterior?). A lead actress who likes to whisper her lines.
Buh-bye STD. You won’t be missed."

I only stuck with it for the first three seasons because of Michelle Yeoh. With her no longer in it, I've had no reason to bother with Season 4.

in modern trek, the adults behave like children so I can only imagine how I'll feel about watching cadets. I'll give it a shot though.

Just finished season 4 of discovery. Decent ending. A scene in this season had the captain cry right there on the bridge and hold hands with her lover in front of the whole crew in another scene. That was a bit much for me to take. I try to imagine any other Star Trek crew behaving this unprofessionally and I can't. She always has to say "good job" like her crew are a bunch of kids in kindgergarden that need constant encouragement. She may as well have handed out scratch and sniff stickers to the whole crew.
They also really need to chill with having everybody use 2020's slang. That kills it for me. As if we are so cool in this current year that people will be using the exact same expressions and talk the exact same way for hundreds of years. Gotta love it when somebody on the bridge says out loud that "this is pretty freakin cool". Did the crew on TOS use expressions like "groovy" and all kinds of other 60's slang? Ofcourse not because that would've been stupid. So they didn't.

As I mentioned above^, the main reason I haven't bothered to buy Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery on Blu-ray to watch (like I did the previous three seasons) is because Michelle Yeoh/Georgiou left the show at the end of Season 3 and with her no longer in it, I have very little interest. Plus, I just recently learned one of the only remaining likeable characters in that show - Tilly - was written out during Season 4, so now I have even less reason to continue watching it than I already did, especially since the only character left who I like on it is Saru. Wonder if they'll end up offing him in Season 5 since apparently that'll be the show's last? Knowing my luck, he probably *would* be. Meanwhile, even if Georgiou and/or Tilly return for the final season, I don't think that'll be enough to get me to watch.

Tillys bake things and smile magnanimously at grandchildren - they don't save the galaxy. I tried, but I just couldn't get into her sweaty, ginger antics.

My favourite show running atm is Lower Decks. I like Strange New Worlds, but it left on a strange note. The finale was a banger but they started killing characters in the second to last episode. At least that's how I remember it. The blind engineer is gone. I can't tell if Una's arrest is writing her off the show or continuing her arc. I am unsure how the next season will look, although I will say Anson Mount is insufferably well-cast as Pike. I like the new take on the Gorn. I prefer their Spock to the Spock from the Chris Pine movies as well, and their Nurse Chapel is a great character. It's interesting though to watch them interact because we know how it ends - Spock and Chapel on TOS.
I also like that they're giving Spock's wife, the one from the Pon Far episode of TOS, some air time. We also know how that situation ends, but it's interesting to watch the lead up. There's several stories that feel like the preamble to a climax written decades ago. The only character that seems to be falling off the radar is Kyle. They're doing a decent job at including characters in their own stories. I'm not married to Chief Kyle, but he does appear less and less toward the end. Maybe they'll have something for him in S2.
When I have time I'm going to give Picard another try. Third season is reportedly a banger and a send-off with a chunk of the old crew.
If that works out I'll give Discovery another try too. Lower Decks is still my tops.
Haven't seen Prodigy yet.
