I had no interest in a Trench movie but New Gods did pique my interest. It would had been something different at least.

A surprisingly smart move by WB. Hell has frozen over! Run for your lives folks!!
Far too ambitious imo. We all know what happened last time teehee

The Trench is the film I wanted to see the most I wanted to see both but they'd probs royally fuck up New Gods or at best an underwhelming film. The Trench would be quite risky too-hit or miss

Although The Trench would probably turn out to be a better film than New Gods anyway

Looks like someone is finally making some decisions over there. My reading of that article is not they the projects are "on hold". "Not going forward" usually means they are dead.
There may be a chance for a New Gods series on HBO Max but I won't hold my breath.

As was it was said earlier, these are "surprisingly smart moves" from DC.
Honestly, the New Gods were highjacked by the Snyder Cut, and Eternals pending release wasn't going to make anything easier. It's unfortunate as I was starting to come around to the King/DuVernay collaboration. Their periodic exchanges on Twitter made it seem as if they were truly putting in the work.
As for the Trench, I don't see that as a significant loss. It seems like it was the product of an over-enthusiastic executive just coming down from the high of Aquaman's billion-dollar win. They were likely wondering what they could do to keep up the momentum in between Aquaman films.
If DC isn't careful, they may get focused and have a handful of wins in the next couple of years. The Suicide Squad looks good to me, Black Adam seems promising, and there's still Zatanna to come. I could be in a theater - more than once - over the next four years to see a DC film - total blasphemy.

Although The Trench would probably turn out to be a better film than New Gods anyway But is it even a film? There are some monsters and an Ocean. Why labor over creating a whole movie around one scene in another hit movie when you could put the effort and resources into a proper DC IP? New Gods had the potential to be better than Eternals if they'd stuck it out, but they were right to take it off of the slate for now. It's called focus, and it sounds like Walter's got some.

Maybe but wasnt James Wan also going to direct this? I have more faith in him than DuVernay. Also after bvs and justice league which they couldnt even handle appropriately. New Gods is another level

Something interesting that's just casually mentioned in the article is that Green Lantern Corps is apparently still in development and set for 2023.

DuVernay suggested in an interview that New Gods was canceled due to “narrative conflicts” with the Snyder Cut.
