This is probably gonna end up being one of the few MCU movies I never watch again. Definitely one of the worst they’ve ever done.

Studio reps have reportedly met with Jonathan Majors' representatives, but have yet to come to a decision. Insider Jeff Sneider has heard that they are "discussing options" about the best way to proceed, but it certainly sounds like another actor stepping in as the Phase 5 villain is a distinct possibility.

MODOK scared the shit out me at first. It was clever to sew in a character like MODOL into the quantum realm. It's feasible a universe that big and unknown makes its own rules about what's possible. But oh my God his face. I guess they had to do it, or else it couldn't be Darren? But why did it have to be Darren? So Darren could go out being slightly less of a dick? For a minute he rained down destruction, and then the face reveal.
I didn't dislike it. The tone is inconsistent. That's been said. I thought his daughter's suit was an unearned reveal. Bill Murray can't not be Bill Murray in a movie anymore, unless Wes Anderson is involved. The intro with Kang was great. The story. What Janet left behind when she escaped the Quantum realm. The chain of events it set into motion. What it says about her that she hasn't talked about it.
The times it doesn't work are breaks from the action, like Scott and Cassie stopping mid-battle to have a father-daughter argument. Drink the ooze was fine. Telepath was cool. Warrior woman from Mandalorian (I'm told) was awesome. Their crew was cool.
The problem I think I'm seeing is these movies aren't coming out in the right order. I don't know what the correct order is, but all of this phase is pulling from beyond reality in its own ways. There's nothing tying it together. So Kang's in the Quantum Realm. That's cool. It makes even more sense when you find he's exiled there. But there were like 3 Spidermen and a group of Professor X, Reed Richards, etc. Are they at all connected? How does Hulk have a son?
I hope Kang killed Thor though. Kang asked if an Avenger he thinks he remembers killing was the one with the hammer. I liked that. Kang was bad ass too. Majors really strikes a balance between sympathetic and threatening. I like the reveal of who he is because it reveals how manipulative he was all along. How many years were they working on the power cell? Kang plays the long game.
All in all I liked it. Although I feel aware that it comes across as trying to repeat the other MCU movies action + comic relief beats and it's not working. Or at least it doesn't feel new. It feels copied, even though it's copied from its own franchise. Those moments let the heat out. I don't remember how it ended and I left mid-post credit scene. It kinda sucked. But I sorta liked it.

Now that some time has gone by I realize this movie has really destroyed my interest in future MCU movies. It was just mid AF like so much of Phase 4. I might be joining Archie McGee soon in the former fan club.

Streaming release date unveiled.
It did seem pretty strange. A friend of mine knows more about the release dates stuff than I do, but I watched a downloaded version of it AND he has Disney +, as do I. It seemed strange to reach out to the download world for this movie despite both of us having Disney +.

Of course the irony is that this movie flopped not because of home release but because of atrocious word of mouth.

Luis and the crew! I missed the Luis storytelling.
I wanted to like it. I even did a little. But not enough to vouch for it in public. I know people!
Honestly I have no idea if watching this + others in a theater would have helped. Black Widow and Spiderman: No Way Home were my last MCU theater outings.

Like I haven’t checked HBO in weeks because the stuff I’m watching is on the other ones. But I’ll probably see what’s new at the beginning of the month.

The theater experience helps. I enjoyed watching this with friends but then my inner critic kicked in afterwards and I realized the movie was ass.

Comcast gave me a bundle I didn’t even want, but they don’t even really give you an option anymore. It’s just a way to artificially boost subs so they can all pretend these things are more popular than they really are.

Yeah unfortunately my subscription comes with ESPN+ which I hate because I don't even watch sports! Seriously if I want to watch a bunch of dudes tackle each other is tight pants, I'd just watch gay porn!

Finally watched it.
I thought Kang was pretty decent villain in the film. Honestly probably the best thing about the movie for me.
The new Cassie actress was fine in the role and I can understand why they changed the actress.
MODOK was a pointless addition, like I'm convinced they did this because Peyton wanted to work with the actor again and Marvel approved it because of the potential merchandise with him.
I can't believe how bad that face was. Like even by Marvel CGI standards that was distractingly bad.
This was a bad start to phase 5, thankfully Guardians 3 was a solid film to make up for this.

MODOK will definitely go down as one of the most embarrassingly bad CGI creations in a major blockbuster movie. Its just so horrendous. Like, why did they have to make his face like that? Just use the real actor’s face FFS! I couldn’t even look at it. 😂😂😂

But unfortunately we can't have that because these films need to be released asap for some reason.

Both movies clearly suffered from it. Wakanda looked decent but could’ve used a lot more polish in the action scenes while Quantumania looks f***ing terrible in parts. It had the worst use of the “volume” I have ever seen.

Finalllllllllly saw this. The first MCU film I did not see in theater, approximately 49 days after release, also a record.
Annnnnnd it’s good. ArArRated - Colosseum Full Of Kangs. And let’s start with Kang. He’s a badass and Meyers is great in the role. Significantly different here than he was in Loki, this is working and leaves me wondering in the best way how this is all going to tie together, especially with the ring of branching time we saw again and the ending Loki stinger.
It’s gorgeous like a fever dream throughout, with classic comicbook goodness of crazy new characters in strange new worlds. I said “this is like reading an comicbook multiple times. And I actually found myself wondering how the divided plot was going to play out. Was Janet evil? Were the two sides going to come to a disagreement on how to handle this? I thought at least 2 main characters had a good chance of dying, so I was hooked.
The first half was frenetic, throwing a lot of pieces on the board, and it really hit its stride when Kang finally appeared instead of just being “him”.
The ending had several big building up to a conclusion moments and then we’d reset and build up to another one, so I’m curious how that plays on rewatch but it all worked. I kind of wanted Scott & Hope to get left there TBH and I’m still wondering how Janet got whatever powers she has. MODOK wassssssssssss ok. I actually liked him, but they could have lost the Darren part of it. They did make good use of the idea he was crushed, so it does fit. It’s alright. And Kang was powerful as hell. I had no idea.
My biggest curiosity is how they continue to ramp this up with now two Kang appearances and an as yet un revealed endgame. Immmmmm going to guess they find the good version and Loki reinstalls him as head of the TVA ;-)
So not a top 10, I don’t want to oversell it. Maybe not a top 20. There are 32 of these things now after all. IDK, I don’t rank but it was an enjoyable watch as always.

A little details I particularly liked was the piling up of ant men lifting him up, just like the ants had done for him way back in film 1. Very cool touch.
Also I feel more and more now that Kang himself will be part of the solution to Kang. Mostly because they’ve killed him once and apparently defeated him here. So a feel like the ending is something other than a “they defeat him” conclusion, especially when both times now have ended with that apparently being the wrong decision.
Also, is this Kang literally the same Kang from Loki and this was what led to him running the TVA? Thinking about it, he not only had the ring of time going on but the desire to banish those other Kangs. Then again, he had scars, soooo maybe not? But it’s close.

Kang's whole kit was pretty damn awesome. He goes hard. Props to the concept and VFX team that put in that work.

Just watched it recently. This was okay. Though probably my least favorite of the ANTMAN movies. Jonathan Majors is great as Kang. MODOK was pretty lame. The third act seemed rushed for some reason.
