What an unbelievably great episode! Discovery is the best Trek ever made.I don't know if I'd go that far, but "Die Trying" is Trek at its finest. Some highlights... - Georgiou's civilian "debriefing" - A transporter accident that leaves someone in a state of superposition - The new ships and technologies - The triumphant return of the Barzans - Repatriating time-displaced fleet officers - A commander who can handle Burnam - finally - The seed vault - The USS Nog, The USS Voyager - Holographic Hulls!? It was just awesome sauce...

I don’t about this Discovery show... but it can’t possibly top TNG. Can it?

And to quote LDM, I could watch Sir Patrick Stewart read from the phonebook for 12 hours and it would still be great. But to me Disco is better than Enterprise and most of the movies. Season 3... Peak Star Trek. Like TNG level good.

I liked it, the "character moments" on this show are incredible.

I have seen every ST film in it's initial theatrical run At least ST: TMP came out before I was born. I saw most of the TNG and Abrams in theatres, though.

How do you compare the growing pains to Agents of Shield out of curiosity? In what sense? Are you asking me to compare season three of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to season three of Star Trek: Discovery? I didn't watch AoS regularly, and I'm not familiar with any growing pains that show may have had. With Discovery, in the first two seasons of the show, the writers and producers made some controversial choices regarding how Discovery fits into the overall continuity of Star Trek. Now that we're in season three, they've fixed or bypassed some of those issues by moving Discovery into the far future, where it is less possible for the show to contradict established canon. During the first two seasons, we were made to accept significant changes to the Star Trek timeline. For example, Mr. Spock was given an African-American foster sister who was raised alongside him on Vulcan. We also had to accept that a ship commissioned a decade before the Enterprise, which predated the "first" five-year mission, somehow had far more advanced technology and managed to save the galaxy from a rogue A.I. without history ever recording it.

Just the first half of the first season of AoS. I believe there's a consensus that it was rocky and because of that it lost quite a few viewers

Disco's New MVP Star Trek peeps, are you ready to meet your favorite Star Trek character's favorite Star Trek character? This individual is one of the most badass characters in the franchise's history with less than a minute's worth of screentime and zero dialogue. He never moves, and you never actually get the chance to meet him in the flesh. Plus, he's dead. Careful for spoilers at this point if you have not seen Star Trek: Discovery season 3 episode 9 - Terra Firma. This episode takes us back to a place that I think Discovery handles exceptionally well - mirror universe. It's the second-best episode of the season IMO. But who is this mystery officer? Who is he really? Meet Lieutenant Commander Yor. Yor holds an unspecified operations posting - likely intelligence division. He's was a time soldier and, by all indications, a bona fide RocknRolla. Based on the episode's opening sequence, this officer is the first person to traverse both time and an alternate dimension to accomplish a Star Fleet mission. The character design is badass, and I like how they put him in TNG season one blues (or gold rather, you know what I mean). The piping is hot! What species is this guy!? I smell a fan fiction cottage industry brewing.

Haven't watched the episode yet, but the crew of the Enterprise-C also traveled to the future, and to an alternate universe.
They then traveled both back in time, and back to their alternate universe, to complete their mission.
So they did it first, and they did it twice!

I just remembered, "Old Spock" also did both, in STAR TREK (2009)

Technically, Picard did too, in "Tapestry" & "All Good Things..."
( even though those trips were both Q-powered )

USS Defiant ( probably not a character ) 117 years into the past of the Mirror Universe.

Okay, I am watching it now, and the writer definitely made a dialogue mistake.
Enterprise-C crew and Ambassador Spock both time traveled, and also to alternate universes.
Although TNG only considered this to be "time-travel-to-an-alternate-future" the 2009 film made it clear that the ST Universe uses a "time-travel-actually-creates-a-new-universe" rule.

Lower Decks is coming to Amazon Prime in January outside of the US. I would like to see that show but I don't have CBS All Access and I am in the US so I don't know when I will be able to. I saw a review of it on Youtube and the guy had mixed feelings about it. He said it had some really bad episodes but it also has some brilliant episodes.

BTW, The Orville season 3 is back in production for Hulu after a long COVID break. I found Lower Decks unnecessarily loud and obnoxious. And it's obviously aimed at a younger generation of Star Trek viewers. It's another ST series that is utterly unconcerned with concepts of rank, duty, and service. The production values are great for an animated show, and I found more episodes than not to be intriguing.

I had heard good things about it but wasn't sure if I should watch it. I tried watching that Phase 2 series years ago but they took so long to put out each episode I figured I wouldn't live long enough to see episode 7 or 8 so I just gave up. But this sounds like they are more on the ball
