So… is there a point to this after Top Gun: Maverick? I was psyched for this project, but WW84 killed my enthusiasm instantly. With the supersized success of Maverick, unless Patty plans to design and fly her own futuristic attack fighters… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Didnt Patty Jenkins leave this project? Nope, here is the last credible update, I think. Patty Jenkins ‘Star Wars’ Movie ‘Rogue Squadron’ Delayed (Exclusive)

Well, it wouldn't be very smart of her to badmouth her previous movie whilst building anticipation for her third/final film.
Also, contrary to popular belief, not everyone hated WW84.

I have to ask. Why? Why would you bring her back? There were serious questions to be asked after the first one. People cheered loud enough for those to be glossed over but they were being asked. But it’s fine that she was given a pass. It did plenty well enough. But if there was any doubt the sequel loudly defined what Patty has to offer for this series and despite her many high qualities it’s an apparent inability to see the bigger picture. She’ll do countless things that don’t contribute to it and then wonder why it all doesn’t work as a whole. I don’t know why I’d bring that back. I really don’t. Maybe it’ll work in another franchise. I suspect that’s why they’re delaying or perhaps canceling rogue squadron. Perhaps not. But either way, there is no way I’d bring her back for WW.

I suspect that’s why they’re delaying or perhaps canceling rogue squadron. Perhaps not. But either way, there is no way I’d bring her back for WW. In hindsight, I think WW84 was Patty Jenkins' attempt to elevate the genre to some perceived new level by showcasing the importance of virtue and sacrifice in human endeavor. The film comes off as more instructive than sincere. Typical superhero films have the ideas of integrity, altruism, and sacrifice baked into the story organically. Those qualities are demonstrated through action and plot and not prescribed. WW84 is the difference between watching a superhero movie and watching a film about what a superhero movie should be. To your question, I think the reason they chose her for part three is that Patty Jenkins' name is nearly synonymous with the Wonder Woman brand. Furthermore, no one who was involved in making WW84 is more incentivized to turn in an improved product than Jenkins herself. Choosing another director would show a lack of confidence in the Wonder Woman brand on the part of WB, and making a helmer change as a part-three-Ragnarok style makeover probably wouldn't work in this case because no one wants that. And… incoming… in 3, 2, 1… "what!? ya'll still talking about this!?"

Wonder if Jenkins will try reviving RS now she's not doing WW3? Fun fact. The Rock Hudson miniseries (WW3) also starred Cathy Lee Crosby who played Wonder Woman in a made for TV movie in 1975.

Kennedy said in a recent interview it may get revived as a Disney+ series. This would've been a SW movie I actually would have liked to see...whereas whatever the hell Waititi's doing is something that could go live in the I'll-never-see-it world of Disney+ streaming series for all I care. Whatever I want to happen, people in charge of SW movies say...
