A tad formulaic but the central idea seemed ahead of its time. Now anyway.... I enjoyed the graphic novel it was based on. Perhaps ghost in the shell played its part?

Personally, I couldn't care less if theaters die out. I only went to one movie in 2019, and zero in 2020. Honestly? Fuck theaters. They like to sell over price food and drinks and the people can ruin your viewing experience with talking, crying children, ect. I prefer to watch my movies in my own home. I can get better food and drinks plus I can pause the film to use the restroom without missing anything.

In a report from The New York Times, most major talent and their agencies were unaware of Warner Bros.' plans before they were announced. This includes stars like Margot Robbie and Will Smith. Whereas Wonder Woman 1984 star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins were able to discuss the HBO Max release plan, no one else was granted the same courtesy. As a result, "Talk of a Warner Bros. boycott began circulating inside the Directors Guild of America." It's also said a partner at one major talent agency met with litigators over the weekend. www.google.com/amp/s/screenrant.com/warner-bros-2021-release-streaming-director-boycott-response/amp/

I'm not a fan. I might be if HBO Max were available here but it's not.
Netflix is the bigger audience but calling HBO Max the worst is probably sour grapes. I don't know how Christopher Nolan has such a mythology crafted in his honor but he's just a man. He's probably angry or scared shitless over what this all means. His sour grapes are at least relatable. I like theaters too and without them, big movies built for them might stop getting made. He'll have to start doing romantic comedies for ends meat.

Dark gritty grounded romcoms. Well there is a concept I never knew I needed.
