Years ago I bought the omnibus (fancy word for big assed book) containing the first 30 Spiderman comics ever. It's a lot of fun to flip through and admire the phenominal art of Ditko, and to see the first covers featuring the classic villains: Green Gobbler, Mysterioso, Vulture-Man, Lizard-Man, Shooker, Electrico, SandyMan and Doctor Squid.
I think I'll bust it out later and have a look.

A bit of history...
In 1978 Marvel Comics had the idea to publish a limited series entitled Marvel Super Hero Contest of Champions.
It was meant to coincide with the 1980 Summer Olympics (to be held in Moscow). The series, no doubt designed to foster sentiments of peaceful cooperation between nations in the minds of young readers, would depict Marvel superheroes engaged in various sporting competitions with internationally-themed, super-powered rivals.
Unfortunately, this early iteration of the 'Contest' would have to be scrapped with America famously withdrawing from the 1980 Olympics in protest of the Russian invasion of Afghanistan.
The series conceived and executed by Writer, Mark Gruenwald, and artists John Romita Jr. and Bob Layton would lay dormant for nearly two years.
In 1981, a new version of the Contest was reworked into a gladiatorial style contest between superheroes of the day engineered by the Grandmaster and a mysterious female figure referred to only as "the Unknown."
The series ran for three issues and featured many popular heroes of the day, including Captain America, Wolverine, Daredevil, She-Hulk, Thing, Iron Fist, Black Panther, Storm, and more. The Eternals even make a brief appearance as they are considered as contestants.
Not so famous heroes also appear, including the Russian Mutant Darkstar, a dark force wielder, the so-called Collective Man, a bizarre conglomeration of five Chinese brothers, and the turban sporting Arabian Knight.
You can read the unabridged, 1982 three-issue limited series on Marvel Unlimited (with the original letter pages intact). As far as I know, it was the first of its kind, predating Secret Wars and The Crisis on Infinite Earths.
My point, you ask? The DNA of this place doesn't just begin on Sakaar - the Contest of Champions is woven into the history of the House of Ideas, and I say to you all --- well done, Sirs.
I am beyond delighted to have received an invitation to join the Contest of Champions.

It's time to expand my comic collection!!!!@ I've had my eye on a few Lee/Ditko era omnibuses (big ass books collecting 30 issues) for a while now. I bought two The Amazing Spiderman omnibuses years ago so it's time to add a new character to the mix.
Ive got it narrowed down to FantasticFour and Captain America.
The Cap ones are cool because the first half of the book is "Strange Tales" issues that co-feature Iron Man. So I would be getting a lot of him too, which is a bonus. There's also some good RED SKULL issues featuring the COSMIC CUBE.
The F4 ones have always stood out to me. I just love seeing those characters in print in their classic form. Not sure why. They just look awesome. Vol 2 features Silver Surfer, Galactus and the first appearance of Black Panther! But... It's out of print and 300$! So I'd have to go with vol 1, which is still a solid choice.
I'd like to buy one at my local comic store when it reopens next month. But I'm tempted to commit the sin of ordering books online - which I am usually against with my entire being - but I don't wanna die for a comic book.
What say you? Cap or F4? Or other... Explain below.

I'd say F4. These characters have such a classic ring. Marvel's First Family. To me these characters are the foundation of Marvel.

It's what I'm leaning towards, but I might just go ahead and get both. I haven't bought any Marvel stuff in years. Last year I picked up a bunch of Batman collections so it's time to even it out.

I haven't read a comic since the 1970s... maybe the early 1980s.
Back in the day, I mainly read DC, such as BATMAN, SUPERMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. I also read LOST IN SPACE, BATTLE, COMMANDO and a few random, science fiction based comics.
As a whovian, I collected a range of DOCTOR WHO comics in the 1980s, but in the 1970s, once I got into books, I never really looked back.

You lie! You arent Mr Sesame! Im not reading anything atm, stopped a few months ago. At times I read them, sometimes I dont. So Ill just mention some favourites:
-Justice League: Darkseid War comic arc -Red Hood and the Outlaws run-completely, including Red Hood Arsenal I think -Vulcan AKA Gabriel Summers, his whole story in the comics. He has appeared again in the recent X-men by Hickman. Not sure if he's appeared between those 2 stories though -Ultimate Spider-Man -Ultimate Fantastic Four -Punisher Max-if you want gritty, this is as gritty as it gets and brutal. Terrorists, black ops, traffickers, vaccine hidden in a child's bloodstream etc -Batman by Scott Snyder, the court of owls one -Old Man Logan-original version -Ultimate Iron Man
Honorable mentions-Watchmen, not a favourite but still a fine comic

I was also looking at The Avengers omnibus, which features the first appearances of the Witchy Witch and a very HELMETED Hawkeye. I think I might just pick up a collection of the first ten issues though rather than the whole omnibus.
So many choices. I wish I had lots of disposable cash. I'd just go nuts and buy all of em.

I forgot to mention Before Watchmen: Minutemen and Ozymandias. They are pretty sweet too. Prequels. The sequel Doomsday Clock is decent-ish

Comics which I can recall reading when I was younger: The Batman Adventures Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and its spin-off, Angel) Hellboy The Phantom Sonic the Hedgehog (and its spin-off Knuckles the Echidna) X-Men Unlimited Some of those^ were 'graphic novels'. One graphic novel I definitely remember reading was We3. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We3I've probably forgotten a heap of other comics I read, knowing my dodgy memory.

Doctor Strange Omnibus for 120$ ?
Should I get it?
As I mentioned before I kinda sorta collect reprinted comic collections off and on. This one is basically out of print and double the original price. Thing is, it will probably never be reprinted- at least not for years.
Its got all the original Ditko stuff! It's trippy and glorious!
Should I do it? Or should I just save my cash and buy- I don't know - food or shelter?
