Science fiction and Horror go together pretty well, It's like the Peanut Butter and Jelly of the genres. Dead Space is Survival Horror game with some action elements thrown in. While it's obviously haven't been around as long as the legendary titans of horror that is Resident Evil and Silent Hill, there's no denying the impact the first game made. It spawn novels, comics and even a animated film. There even was a live action film adaption planned at one point and even the legendary horror director himself, John Carpenter, wanted to make a film adaption
The last game in the mainland franchise, Dead Space 3, was met with lackluster sales as well as reviews. It was also a very divisive game for fans of the franchise with it being more focus on the action and less focus on the horror aspect that made people love the previous entries and as well as
the Microtransactions that were thrown in by EA to monetize the franchise popularity. There was a planned Dead Space 4 but it was cancelled, leaving the franchise pretty much dead for years to come. Until now!
Dead Space Remake is...well a remake of the first critically acclaimed Dead Space 1. Story wise it's set in the 26th century and follows engineer Isaac Clarke, a crewman on a repair vessel assigned to the USG Ishimura, a massive planetary mining ship that has gone silent. While investigating a distress call sent by the ship's medical officer Nicole Brennan (Isaac's girlfriend), the vessel's crew is attacked by mutated human corpses; Isaac is forced to fend for himself as he tries to save his surviving crewmates and learn the truth behind the loss of Ishimura.
They recently released gameplay of the remake and it actually looks pretty solid. Hopefully the developer Motive Studio delivers a remake that is just as good as the original game.
