Counting the Holiday Special, Drax will have appeared in seven different MCU productions. I think that at least ties him with any single Bond actor for the number of appearances as a character in a franchise. I - personally - wouldn't call that 'whimsical' in terms of commitment to the role. I'm not opposed to recasting him, but I wouldn't mind a short moratorium on the character either. If the plan was for the character to be done at this point then that is fine. My issue is with people insisting that only 1 actor can play a character.Got it. I would never go as far as to say that only one actor could play a particular part, but I will say that some actors are harder to replace than others. When those sorts of actors leave a role, it usually means the end of an era for an IP. Not saying that Batista as Drax is on that level, but it's not always as easy as a shrug-and-point gesture to replace someone people have come to love. I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to see Indiana Jones films that don't feature Harrison Ford - they just won't be the same for me --- personally. To each his own on that one, I suppose. My issue is with people who hear that someone like Dave is contemplating leaving an iconic role and then having a knee-jerk reaction that he is behaving like a spoiled actor. Dave is in his fifties. It takes five hours for him to become Drax and another hour - spent in a sauna - to get it all off. He's averaged one movie per year as Drax since Volume 1. And, frankly, while I don't know for sure, I don't think it's ever easy to put up with mouse-house antics while you're trying to do the thing. There comes a time when you've just eaten one chicken cutlet too many. As for replacing him, that's fine so long as no one is doing it just to do it. My recollection of Drax shortly after Infinity War in the comics is panel after panel of him impersonating a vegetable that obeys verbal commands issued by Warlock. It was terrible. Narratively, I just don't see the urgency to recast.

Recasts are tricky. Even when they're done well they can be strange, like did nobody in The Dark Knight realize Rachel Dawes looked like a different person overnight? These are the questions I ask myself when my mind wanders. World's greatest detective fails to notice his unrequited love has a different face.
Batista did such a good job I think it's only natural to put some distance between his Drax and a recast. I wouldn't mind the moratorium on the character either. If they recast him after Batista's done and keep going, then I think his character will become overexposed and exhausted. If the last time I saw him were Endgame it would still be too soon.

Drax WAS A GOOD character (in G1) to leave to the whims of an actor. Recast after GOTG 3. I'm sick of this notion that characters that have been part of pop culture for decades have to disappear from movies every time an actor quits. Fixed it for you. He became a clown unfortunately

The High Evolutionary might appear in the movie. I want that so bad. The High Evolutionary is seriously one of my favorite comicbook characters. Weird I know, but so loved the oddball cosmic deities who would rarely appear. You’d flip the page and find out they were coming with a big splash panel and yeahhhh. Can’t wait to see him.

I think it's time for the Fantastic Four to come on the scene to be the main Avengers unit.

If the plan was for the character to be done at this point then that is fine. My issue is with people insisting that only 1 actor can play a character. I've had kind of a change pf heart on this. It still depends for me how recognizable the person is. Sometimes, it can be really throwing if the actor who replaces another actor playing a character looks nothing like the previous actor. It can be weird. I took me forever to pick up on that Josh Brolin was playing Clive Owen's character from the first Sin City movie because they look nothing alike. But when CGI or a lot of makeup or prosthetics is involved, or just a plain costume that covers everything like Darth Vader, I don't see the problem.
It sneaked up on me that the actress who played Quark's mother in DS9 didn't return to play her in later seasons. It was someone else, and not a step was lost, and that's okay.
Or maybe that could go have Drax show up as a different actor and get cheeky with it, also like DS9:
"It's an internal Klingon Kylosian matter".

Yeah that was weird. Kinda like War Machine in the MCU

Hmm interesting. Wonder what we'll get then instead? Less comedy? Then again Quill's father was pretty "dark"
