I have seen almost all of his movies now. I watched Clockwork for the first time on Election Day!
My favorite was always 2001, but recently I have changed it to The Shining, which improves with every viewing.
What say you?

Ranked:
A Clockwork Orange The Shining 2001 Dr. Strangelove Eyes Wide Shut Full Metal Jacket (the second half kind of drags it down a bit but it’s still good overall)

It’s always nice to see this one get some love. I think it’s right up there with his best. One of my favorite war movies. The common criticism is that the first half is great and the second half can’t compare. I disagree with that. I think the second half is brilliant as well.

He is joining us soon but he is taking the long route. Dave Stoller has also disappeared.

I love the way the film is structured, and I think all three acts of the film are superb. I'm also a huge fan of the source material, The Short-Timers and The Phantom Blooper.

Anyone have any thoughts on Eyes Wide Shut? I’ve #NeverSeenIt I rambled on about it here… Long story short, it really bothered me, disturbed me, all the more so because of its black-comedy touches. Literally gave me nightmares after I finished it. So, yeah, thought it was excellent. I thought performances great in particular, but I can see why others don’t like them (they’re in that calculated Kubrick style). I don’t see this discussed much, but it’s very much a companion piece to The Shining, so much so that they seem like variations on the same theme. Sets and use of color (and humor) particularly similar. I’d recommend that you watch it, but I don’t want you to get nightmares. Then again, many critics have found it unintentionally hilarious rather than disturbing (a viewpoint I can’t understand at all), so what do I know?

Anyone have any thoughts on Eyes Wide Shut? I’ve #NeverSeenIt It's an exceptionally well-crafted film - well acted and incredibly well directed. That said, I've never gotten a visceral feeling from the film. My praise is purely analytical. The film never manages to reach me on an emotional level.

This is a common opinion of Kubrick movies. Is EWS the only one of his movies you would say this about? Or do you feel this way about others?

Eyes Wide Shut feels like he did it because he could do it, and not because he was particularly invested in the material.

Curious to know how everyone feels about the rarely discussed Barry Lyndon. It's actually a top-five Kubrick pick for me. Not many films illustrate the vagaries of fate and the fickleness of luck, as well as Lyndon. The only reason it doesn't rate as my second favorite Kubrick film is due to casting choices I disagreed with.

(I haven’t seen several, the reason I just chimed in on this thread on Eyes Wide Shut, which I have seen.)
